We had this deer on camera but I never thought we’d see it.

Today started out like a normal year for our group. We deer hunted the small property my Dad purchased over 20 yrs ago (Thanks Dad!) We harvested some does and passed on a bunch of small bucks this morning. It can be tough passing up decent bucks when you have hunters near you shooting the deer you pass by but today it paid off.

My brother is usually one of the first to his stand for the afternoon hunt but today he took his time for some reason. He played ball with my kids and even dropped my truck off on the otherside of our property, all so it’d be easier for my young daughter and I to exit the woods later on. Then finally he dropped his son off at his stand.

This all put him well behind his desired start time. Once he was done with all that he started walking in to his own stand. He heard a doe running and noticed it was not running from him. Then he noticed the beast we were all hoping to see. The buck saw him and ran. It ran and stopped 80yds out behind two oaks. He had a shot but he had to move quick. He pulled up and squeezed off a perfect shot! Minutes later he was holding the biggest buck I’ve ever seen in person.

It was 18 points with more mass and character than you can imagine. In person it seriously looks almost fake. This thing is truly deer farm quality! Congrats big brother! Your patients and kindness paid you 10 fold “18 fold” today! What an animal!

WOW. Beautiful buck. How far from his stand was he? Based on the story I assume he wouldn’t have seen this buck had he gotten to his stand early like usual. Crazy! Congrats to all involved!

He wasn’t too far away but there are just too many variables to know if he would have ever had a chance, if he was 2min earlier or later to that exact spot. Come a lil earlier and spook em out? Or spook the doe and the buck never comes? Hard to say!

Wowzers! Amazing deer! Funny how all the effort and planning and time we commit and sometimes it really just comes down to being in the right spot at the right time.

    Wow, truly a magnificent buck.
