Guys I have an opportunity to get a 16 footer with a 40HP Magnum Mariner. From what I understand this is a Merc not a Yamaha as its over 25hp

It’s been well maintained. Are these problematic or solid? Appreciate the free advice

I put one on a Lund 18 Alaskan and loved it. Not as fuel efficient as the 2 cylinder, but idled great. Trolled on Lake MI for a few years with it. Watch for any water leaks in the jacket cover. I neglected mine and filled the cowling with water. When water went through the carb, I blew the rods. Gaskets are cheap and I know a few other guys that had water leaks. If I would have taken care of it right away, it never would have been an issue.

You are correct, same as merchant, just silver

    Thanks Randy!

With me looking for space, and my Evinrude needing an impeller replacement in 48 hours I’m leaning toward purchasing that boat. I’ll make sure I vet the service history and test run it. It sounds like these were some of Mercs best

Yep that’s just a gray Mercury, and they are very solid engines, like Randy said just keep an eye out for water leaks and a little normal maintenance and it will run forever.

Is that a 3 cylinder? I had a 3 cylinder Merc of about the same vintage, and it was a great motor.
