Marcums underwater cameras

I’ve been thinking about getting a underwater camera since I just bought all my ice fishing gear this year. only thing left is a camera. From what I’ve read, I like all of Marcum cameras. However, I want to buy one so I can use for both ice fishing and from my boat during open water season. Below is what I’m considering and why. Any input or thoughts would help me out a lot.

VS825SD or VS625SD- I like the options of the on screen camera temp, and depth, and direction. should be able to use in the boat with no problem. I fish Lake Michigan for salmon and trout often in the summer months so also like the 75ft of cable.

disadvantages – Id need to rig something up to use the panner on the boat.

Pan Cam- I know this is brand new this year and I have not seen a lot of consumer reviews yet. I like the fact that its wireless, I have a band new 8 inch tablet sitting in the box that I have not used yet. I like the fact that I can put the tablet in a otter case with a ram mount and attach it to one of the poles in my otter lodge. Can do the same in the boat.

However disadvantages I think are. I would need to rig up some type of holder for the boat so I can use the paner. no temp or direction, only 50ft of cable. I also have not heard much feed back on of it works, picture quality, wifi reliability (does it stay connected)

I really like the wireless aspects of this product , just wondering about the performance, and lack of reviews to compare it to the other models.

The sales of the Pan Cam have been strong to the guys that run wheel houses. With the warm weather very few wheel house guys have been able to get out and get set up. Once they do I’m sure reports and reviews will be easier to come by.

I had the VS625SD before going to a LX9 when they came out. Nothing but complete satisfaction. I use my lx9 year round, and it does take a bit of a learning curve for open water in the boat. I’m running mine on the deck in a bass boat. Between managing the cable/depth, and trolling motor there is some trying moments as there would be with any camera system. By far, the DVR function of the lx9 has allowed me to record while not looking at the screen and review later

I huge pro for the camera head is the design. It takes very little speed to get it to track nice and even

The technology of the camera is the same on the VS and LX9. If you have caught any of the underwater scenes that James and the guys have used in the show, you can see how vibrant the image is in ideal water quality. Here is a link to one of the fist tests I did with mine on the Miss. In all fairness, I wish I had shown more of the conditions above the ice. Over cast, drizzle, and simply a crappy day. Skip around through the vid, as I changed depth and lighting conditions continued to deteriorate. The last few minutes were recorded as we lost light above the ice. By the time I stopped recording, we had lights going so we could see what we were doing. I was quite impressed with it.

If you happen to be running a 9 or 12 Lowrance Touch, the Marcum’s will connect directly to your sonar/gps for “right in front of you viewing”.
