Marcum Vexilar interference issue

So I typically fish alone so I hadn’t been exposed to the interference issues when using a Marcum in the same HUB as a Vexilar. I have the Marcum LX5, I was fishing with two buddies both had FLx-28 and flx-8se. I tried many times to use the IR setting to get rid of all the noise/interference, but didn’t have much luck. Do I need to go get a Humminbird/Vexilar? Or is there another way to make this work. I have a buddy who wont even fish in a HUB with someone with a Marcum. So he says.

You need to have them adjust their IR settings as well. It will be a combination of different settings that may give each of you the ability to remove MOST of the interference.

If you are in shallower water, say 25′ or less, the FLX28 could be changed to low power to reduce some of its interference.

One other thing, Make sure that yours is set to its narrowest cone angle. A wide cone angle will pick up more interference.

This is 100 percent correct. I fished with my marcum for many years with vexilar guys. Both units need to go through the ir and there is typically a happy spot. Well for all but that fl 8. He just has to hope for the best

That’s just the Marcum way. They don’t play well with others. I doubt you’ll find any ir settings on any unit that will totally eliminate interference.

Historically, this site has always had questions about how to remove interference on the Vex FROM the Marcum. I believe Marcum uses much higher power and uses a less sensitive transducer. It was my understanding that Vex uses less power and a more sensitive transducer. This power mismatch equated to problems for the Vex next to the Marcum. Although in recent years, I’ve seen more posts like yours so you’re definitely not alone.

Now with the FLX30, you can match the power of the Marcum with about 7 different cone angles and something like 100 different possible IR settings.

I fish next to a FLX28 with my LX5 all the time. Both need to tap the IR button till they both are happy. No problems fishing 5 hours together with the units 3ft from each other.

We currently fish an older Marcum LX-2 and FL-18 anywhere from about 2 feet to 6 feet apart. Couple of “buttons pushed” any interference is gone. Rarely have had to re-adjust from 13 months ago or so.

No the inference on both goes to zero by simply turning off each unit one at a time. If we can make ’em work side-by-side most others should be able to also.

Have not fished deeper than 20′ or so … not sure if interference would pop back up or not.
