Marcum transducer issue LX-5

I have a LX-5, bought it new, thought it would replace my ICE-55, it didn’t. The LX-5 is my back up unit, so it doesn’t get much use, none in two years. Went to charge it up for the season and have it ready for the year. Finally my son used it last weekend. It was not reading very well. Turned up the gain still not good reading, check the plug, it seemed good. Pulled the transducer out and looked at it, it didn’t look right and the bottom was soft. Those are fingernail dents in the bottom of it. Has anybody else seen this? I am guessing this is the issue. I know when I pulled out the transducer it did kind of stick to the cup. But didn’t think much of it.

Has anybody else had this happen?

What is good e-mail for service?

    Thanks, Doug

Yep I believe it has to do with storing it while it may be wet. Had the same exact thing happen to mine. pulled it out of the little tray thing and it ripped a piece of the transducer bottom off and never read right again. I ended up having to just go buy another transducer for it. The new ones have little grooves in the slots so water gets channeled into them so they definitely heard this issue a time or two in the past.

Put a dab of silicone in the center of the storage cup. When dry, will keep this from happening again.

They will replace. Transducer is defective they said.

My experience with Marcum has always been good. I still have and love my Pancan, they helped work out the bugs with it first came out. On this call I got a return call within a hour, on a Monday.

I wish I had looked at it earlier. Back up unit and happy to say I didn’t need it.

Maybe I am not fishing enough. Used to use it more, before I got a traducer for unit on my ATC.I have a unit on the handle bar for GPS and sonar, nice.

    Thanks, Doug

Excellent tip. This should work with my Marcum and my dad’s ‘Bird.

I had the exact same thing, transducer got stuck in the cup and then the bottom was soft and could scrape bits off. I didn’t really see a performance change with the unit, still good, but I bought another transducer as a spare, plus got one of these:

    http://shop.endless-ice.com/product/no-freeze-transducer-ring-for-marcum-lx-5-lx-7-lx-9-and-the-humminbird-ice-35-45-55-flashers

I am going to buy one of those!! My LX5 had the same issue. Cost me $80.00 to replace the transducer and have it looked over by Marcum. I had the same softening of the bottom.
