LOL funny you ask. I thought I was going to have some today…but didn’t. Operator error.

I can tell you that it worked very well in the Mississippi River yesterday even though it was a little murky from the recent rains.

I didn’t like the directional indicator as it told me it was facing N, NW, W, SW, S and so on. I need an arrow.. cause most of the time I don’t know which way is up!

The camera head is light for using in the river. It works but not as easy as the heavier head on the LX-9. It would be great for looking down a hole though.

Awesome unit that once I put a card in it, I’ll post some river video.
    I loved the navigation!

Thanks Brian! it’s too bad Marcum didn’t have the arrow move around the screen edge like the SD series or simply use a spinning arrow like the LX-9, I agree the N,S,E,W and so on is dumb…

Ah I was thinking about buying a 5+ but if no arrow no deal. Dog gone it. That just plain stupid.

LOL! I hate those deal breakers too.

I spose a fella could look which way the camera is pointing, then look at the screen. Once a person knows which way is North it shouldn’t be an issue.

I have the 5+ and had it out on Mille Lacs yesterday. I was commenting on how I liked the N, S, E, W, which is easy to determine on the Pond, but I could see how that could be an issue if I was on an unfamiliar body of water.
I have not yet used the recording option yet.
If fishing is slow, and drinking is fast at the IDO get together I might use it as a body cam. waytogo

Footage in this video shows lag.

Not sure why my link isn’t working. On YouTube it is titled marcum recon five plus test busse lake. There are two videos one shows lag one looks OK.

Im going to get one and will share the videos.

anyone else notice that the depth feature seems to work sometimes and other times it wont? ive noticed on mine that sometimes I get a reading and other times it will say its only like 3ft deep when I am fishing in 25ft of water.

The link did not show up until this morning. Do moderators have to check links? I didnt make any changes to my post and now the video has showed up…Anyway like I said, that video has a crap load of lag. The other video the guy posted does not. Im just going to have to get one and see. The picture looks great in that stained water, I am interested about that lag with the DVR.

remember it’s a new form factor gen1 product, many of Marcum’s gen1 products (remote panner comes to mind) have issues that are mostly fixed in future gens… I’ll wait and not be a free product tester….

Probably not a bad idea. I am interested to know if that lag was user error or generated in the DVR. It almost looks like the video is sped up.

possible it was a slow SD card, do they indicate a minimum speed card to use?

at this point in the ice season I would wait to see if they improve the 5+ for next year…the form factor design is solid, imo they need to clean up the UI so Camera direction displays better (Make it display like the SD series cameras or the LX9) Perhaps even move to a .mp4 file format for recorded videos so they play well with today’s media devices (playback & editing) Others have mentioned a fast forward & reverse feature would be nice during playback.

The basic Recon does what’s its supposed to do pretty well.

I love my regular recon. Was gonna get the + but couldn’t see a benefit for what I do to spend the extra money. Love hopping around to different holes with it. Very simple and the LED and IR works amazing at night! I could see my bait a couple feet away in pitch black dark

Personally I am happy I got the 5+ for the directional feature. Agree that it should be an arrow rather than the directions N,S,E,W but frankly, if you cant figure out roughly which direction is which than im not sure what to tell ya – probably would be a good time to learn that skill. It would be much easier if it was just a simple arrow though.

As far as the other things it offers im not sure ill use them much. The depth reading is nice, but as mentioned above, that’s the one thing ive been having trouble with on mine.

Brian, how was the camera versus the camera used on the VS485c (which is the HADII CCD sony camera)? Where I fish, it’s stained, dirty water and camera quality is more important than direction.

Actually, I did not. I only dropped it down for a few minutes. I might head up there again this Sunday. They have to put on the feedbag one of these times.
