Does anyone have on ice experience with the pursuit hd? Tell me the good and the bad. Thanks

I’m interested in any feedback or tips as well – mine was just delivered today, Christmas present from the GF.
I am a bit concerned about the battery life since it’s an internal battery with only a 6 hour advertised max life (meaning quite a bit less on ice in real life), and I was told by a Marcum tech that the unit has to be powered off to charge the battery. I understand that the smaller internal battery is a tradeoff for portability, but it would sure be convenient to plug it into my power block USB port while I’m fishing stationary for a bit to keep it charged for an entire day of use.
It doesn’t look like I’ll be able to get out and use it until weekend after Christmas, I’ll report back after I get some fishing time with it – ability to post pics and videos should be very cool.

That’s dumb. I probably won’t buy it if I can’t plug it in charge it and use it at the same time…

I have used mine twice now and the handle on the cable reel keeps falling out. Also not really sure how to use it with the strap and case as it is really hard to get the cable to feed out of the back. If someone has any tips on that I’m all ears!

Marcum needs to step up their quality control – and I will be testing their commitment to customer service as well. I just opened my brand new Pursuit HD, hit the power button, and on the screen pops up “No Signal” which means either the camera or the cable is defective – right out of the box! WTF? And this is after I waited 7 days for it to be delivered from 50 miles away (not MarCum’s fault).
The pouch is a urine poor design with the crappiest zippers I’ve felt in years, and with the mention of the crank handle issue, I will have to get some pretty spectacular service to consider owning a Pursuit HD. I find these issues all unacceptable, and to me unacceptable means unacceptable. This is supposed to be the best product in it’s category? Looks to me like they chose rush to market over quality product. The ball is in MarCum’s court, I’ve heard they treat customers well, and it’s going to take some outstanding service to keep my money at this point.

That’s a shame to hear, but unfortunately not too all uncommon for them over the past few years. I too was thinking about purchasing the Pursuit, but will now put the breaks on that purchase until more real world user feedback is provided…

How was the battery life? Quality of video?

I have found a lot of devices do not allow operation when charging via USB,like my Nikon camera and many MP3 players. And this unit is no exception.

Quality of video seems on par with the old LX9?Does look good in low light without getting too grainy.

I picked one up during Reed’s ice show sale, but haven’t taken it out of the box yet. Hoping to get on the ice between Christmas and New Years, but the above makes me kind of nervous, although I never had any problems with the Recon 5+ (knock on wood). I wanted to do more underwater filming and the HD resolution and not having to deal with goofy video formats and jump through hoops to get video to display properly in edit compelled me to upgrade.

I just picked one up myself I hope to be on ice with it.

I will hopefully give some feedback here after the weekend. I was looking for something very compact and 4 ish hours of battery time. That is all my kids will go for anyways.

The video quality so far has been great in all conditions. I mainly use it for scouting locations and don’t use it much while actually fishing so I can’t really comment on battery life. I did have the no signal issue a couple times when I first used the camera but haven’t had that issue since. So far not the best purchase I have made but like others have said I will wait to see how Marcum customer service handles these issues as I have submitted a claim to them, just waiting to hear back.

Disappointing to hear about the quality of this camera. I currently have a Recon 5+ and have not had any issues. Looks like I’ll also be waiting to hear some more reviews about this product.

Took mine out of the box and seems to work fine so far playing with it a little bit. I did have the little magnets that keep the lid closed come off the lid when I first opened it to look at the screen. I attempted to super glue them back on, but must have put them on backwards since the lid doesn’t want to close completely all the way now. It’s not a huge deal, but it’s definitely a quality issue. Little things that hurt the initial “Wow” factor.
