I will be buying a recon 5+ next week and as I get closer to the purchase im wondering if I should also buy a panner for it. I don’t plan on using the camera all that much to actually watch fish attack my lure I plan on using it more for hole hoping and checking under water structure ext. That being said I will likely use it some while being stationary watching fish and how they react to my lure. For those that have used cameras for ice fishing before, is a panner necessary for this operation or at the very least, helpful enough to warrant the extra cost? Also, if I do choose to get a panner, should I get the wireless or wired panner? the cost being close to double for the wireless. I don’t mind much having to use wires, but ive heard that the wired unit requires C batteries whereas the wireless is rechargeable. I don’t want to have to monkey around with batteries…

I have both and I prefer the wireless version. Getting rid of the cord is a plus but I find having the control for the wireless version (it looks like a fob for your car) clipped to my striker bibs to be much more convenient than having to reach for the wired version every time I make an adjustment.

As for justifying the cost difference… only you can make that call. grin

I have both, the wired version offers better control turning as you can creep it left or right with the button, the wireless version seems to turn a preset amount no matter how quick you tap the turn button…but like James said, the ability to eliminate a wire from the floor of my shack was a big win..

I agree, as I have had the wired one since they came available. It would be nice to get rid of the batteries and also the chord on the shack floor can be a pain in the a##.
