Im currently using a helix 7 ice g2, however it seems like no matter how much i play with the settings i cannot get it dialed in. ive done the newest software update and everything. im just curious what people think of the marcum lx7 or lx6 units? just looking for features and settings and ease of use. i thought this humminbird was the one but now im starting to have 2nd thoughts..

I own both and prefer the helix 7. When you say you cannot get the settings dialled in what issue is it specifically? Someone here may be able to provide feedback if we know the issue you are having with the helix.

Don’t get me wrong the LX7 is also a good unit but there are some nuances with the unit. For example must set depth manually or you can run into issues with the screen freezing when a fish appears and poor screen brightness for fishing outside in the sunlight.

There are pros and cons with both units.

While I’ve only had my lx7 for less than a week, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. (well maybe panoptics) it took 5 minutes to learn how to use, and can do more than 90% of flashers on the market. I upgraded from an lx3tci so the possibilities are seemingly endless for the lx7. I thought about a Helix 7 but after doing my research, I went with the lx7. The only benifit to the Helix is the maps. Which I use navionics for anyway and navionics in my experiences is better and more accurate than lake master. Other than that, all benifits seem to lean towards Marcum so I went with the lx7.
I’ve already got about 20 hours of use with the unit and can tell you I have no issues seeing the screen in the sun. I ran the back light at 50% the entire time I was outside and had 0 issues seeing the screen. Granted I obviously didn’t set it so the sun was shining on it allowing it to give off any glare. As far as the depth jumping around, I had it happen once when there was 5+ fish halfway up the water column, but it straightened itself out. And if I was going to sit in the house, I’d turn it to manual dynamic to lock it in at tha depth and it worked flawlessly.

My only problem I’ve had is the carrying case is a little awkward. It works, but isn’t the best design. So I can either deal with it or grab a needle and thread and hand it to my girlfriend to fix it for me!

Hookup with a fellow helix user to help with setup and troubleshooting, or maybe a digital marcum jockey to check one out?

I sold my lx7 3 years ago and lx6 this season, back to mechanical all the way for the simple 2d sonar, going 4 years now. Light and reliable and better performance over more conditions. As said, pros and cons mixed with different opinions based on fishing style.

The problems that I am having is Target separation. There doesn’t seem to be any, and most of the time I literally cannot see my jig I mess with the gain, I manually set depth everywhere I go. It seems like the depth bounces between the actual depth and some other random depth it decides to display. It seems like a great unit however it just doesn’t seem to be a consistent user experience. The GPS is nice you are right. That seems to work all the time no problems. I’m not giving up yet on it I’m just not extremely impressed with some of the bugs in the software.

Maybe you have a bad transducer?
