I am trying to decide between these two units. Obviously the screen size is bigger but what about overall size and weight. Is the footprint of the case and base the same? What does each unit weigh? I can’t find this info on the Marcum website.

the 7 is bigger. The 7 is the 9 without the camera. If I remember correctly, the 6 will fit into a 5 gallon pail, I know for fact the 7 will not. Not upright anyways )

I have the 7 and its a good unit. I would recommend it over the 6 just for the size to see it.

I have the 6 and wish I had gone with the 7 just for the screen size, but that is purely cosmetic for me, I can see my 6 just fine and it has never let me down

I made the switch to Marcum years ago and have been happier than a squirrel in a nut factory and I haven’t owned another brand since an original old blue box FL-8 so I really can’t comment on other brands… What I can tell you though is I LOVE using my LX-7!

Hmmmm.. I thought the 6 could fit in the bottom of a pail ? Glad I went with the 9 then )

The weight difference between the 6 and the 7 is measured in ounces. In my opinion it is a non-factor in the decision making process as the majority of the weight in both units is tied up in the battery which weighs the same for both units.

One other difference that hasn’t been mentioned, albeit a small one, is the LX7 has a target separation advantage over the LX6 to the tune of 1/4 inch. This is due to the 7’s higher resolution screen.

    Thanks James,

I fish out of a one man Clam and pull my gear out under man power a big percentage of the time. I think screen size would be “OK” with the LX6 but at the same time I have to admit my aging eyes would like the bigger screen.

Given that the base size is the same and weight difference is negligible, I’ll most likely go with the LX7 unit.

When you get the 7 Dave put the Ice Force lithium battery in it that really lightens it up. I too have to pull my Otter by manpower ! Every little bit helps.

I upgraded to the LX6 late last year from a HB ICE35. I am amazed at the difference. I went with the LX6 because I found a great deal on it ($200 less than a LX7) For me the screen size is just fine, I have the flasher mode, vertical zoom and graph all up as once.

I started out with the 9 and found the waters i fish are really too stained for a camera can only see a few inches in central Wisconsin river systems and downgraded to a 6 and just LOVE it after the 9 it seemed so much lighter smaller and easier too use the 7 and 9 are great dont get me wrong but i would not trade my 6 for anything might even get a second for my daughter as she likes to steal mine! Plus the money i saved went to lures and rods reels and tipups popup shanty….
