Marcum LX-3tc not picking up the jig very well…

I’ve got an LX-3tc and I’ve had it for a year and 10 months. Still under warranty. Problem is that I can barely pick my jig up now, it’s been like this for about a half year. I’m thinking it’s the transducer, any other ideas of what it might be? Jig flickers in and out of view, VX-1 picks it up just fine, I might have to swap the transducers and try out a different ducer but is it covered by the warranty still?

How good is the battery? I had a similar problem when my battery was weak. Assuming you have adjusted the sensitivity???
If it isn’t the battery then it could be the transducer, next likely suspect.

Check the transducer connection too. I was having troubles the other day and had a loose connection which fixed it.

I’ll check the battery but I’ve been charging it every couple of trips, If I crank the gain up it picks it up better but I don’t like all the clutter that comes with turning it up.

I’ll check that, if that’s not it I think it must be the ducer!

The easiest thing you can do is to swap transducers with one that is working properly on another unit to find out if it works differently or the same with another transducer. The second step would be to replace/swap the battery with one that you know is a good battery.

Thanks Will, I’ll give it a shot tonight, if it ends up being the transducer is that still covered by the warranty?

I honestly don’t know the warranty details but if you find out that it is the transducer I would definitely give a call to Marcum Customer service and ask.

one other thing to check would be the set screw that is on the sensitivity knob. I had the set screw loosen up on me a couple years ago. Since then I did have to replace the transducer, I was getting an abnormal amount of static and false images on the screen. Both of these solutions fixed my issues at the time.

Not sure if your model of the LX3 has a specific spot for the transducer or just a tray it lays in. I had some transducer issues a while back and when I talked to the guys at Marcum they suggested adding some decent padding in the tray where the transducer sits.
The older LX3 I was using just had a plastic tray to rest the ducer in and the bouncing in there was wrecking it. I had some old blade buddies(hockey skate blade cover) and I cut one in half, put half in my Lx3 and half in the wife’s….that was years ago and haven’t had a ducer issue since.

They are pretty sensitive to impacts so you should never use the ducer to punch through a skim of ice over a hole, bang it around on the ice or let it bounce around in the tray…..sure fire ways to needing to replace it.

I gave Marcum a call and since it’s still covered under warranty, I can just send the whole unit in and they’ll fix it and send it back. Now the only problem is I won’t have my unit to use for a week or so cry

A week or so is actually called “wonderful customer service” IMO. Assuming it works as it should when you get it back… honestly two weeks for warranty is easily fair enough IMO. Everything has the potential to break, new or used. If you don’t get it back within 2 weeks then I would start to consider being unhappy. Let us know how it turns out!…tons of marcum fans here myself included. We all hope we don’t have to use our warranty but if/when we do we hope even more that it’s covered!

I just experienced the same thing on my lx-1, replaced transducer and like a brand new machine now!
