Marcum Interference?

I have the Marcum LX7 and last night I tried using my Helix 7 next to the Marcum but the interference on the Helix7 was horrible. Does anyone know if I used another Marcum will work next to my current LX7? I want to run 2 units side by side without interference.

For those that have the Helix7 for open water and want to switch it to ice mode I was very disappointed. With the Marcum off the Helix7 response time was slow and lagged a few seconds. The only thing I could do with the Helix was to use it to set my depth for my dead stick rod.

According to another thread the helix should have no interference. I had terrible luck with mine last year so I’m using my flasher again this year.

James and I fished side by side all week and he runs an LX9 and I run an LX5i and we easily dialed out the interference.

I’m not 100% positive but I do not think the Helix has an IR rejection control.

My wife uses an LX5 and I use an LX6 in the same house with no problems. My son has an LX9 and we have used the LX5 and LX6 in the same shack without any problems.

In general, one of the most effect ways to reduce or eliminate interference is to use the narrow beam setting. I far prefer this over messing with the IR.

Did you try changing the interference rejection on the Marcum to see if you could clear up the interference on the helix? The helix is really made for a boat and is not designed to be run so close to another sonar unit, but maybe with some luck the IR on the Marcum will allow them both to work in the same house.

Yes I played with the IR on the Marcum and the interference was still bad. Looks like I’m buying another Marcum.

My fiancé and my buddy ran 2 LX 7’s in the same hole last weekend with zero interference.

I run a 5 and 6 in the same house with some interference, but pretty easy to tune it out.

We used 3 LX 7’s in the same hard house this weekend and had some interference issues. If 2 units were on, all was good but once the third was switched on all 3 units had interference issues. All 3 were on the 8° cone with IR all the way up in 13 FOW. I turned the ping rates down to 3 and that helped a little bit. Any suggestions?

The title should be “Helix 7 interference?” The helix isn’t designed to be run near other signals. If you ran 2 helix’s next to each other I bet they would throw each other out too.

Not really ben. I’m looking for another unit that will work next to my lx7 without interference. The Helix will never see the ice again.

You can use a variety of sonars that will work alongside your lx7 I’ve found that vexlars fl20, 22 and flx28, humminbird ice 45&55 (haven’t tried next to a 35) and the newer Marcums ( excluding the older LX 1 & 2) all work fine in a variety of depths and lake types together. Sometimes you will have to get creative with the IR function though. I found the best IR combo for my LX6&5 together is channel 5 on the LX6 and 1 press of the IR on the LX 5. With vexilars, channel 4 works best for me. I usually don’t have to press any buttons next to the ice 45 & 55.

The Helix 7 is slightly limited in regards to IR, but I’ve had success getting it to run clear next to my Lx7 in my cottage every time I’ve tried. You need to adjust the noise filtering on the Helix to high 3 and possibly tweak the transducer depth and make sure it’s in ice fishing mode, but it’ll work.

I don’t disagree that the Helix is less responsive than the Marcum, but the lag time is in milli-seconds. Perceptible, but not unusable IMO.

Helix doesn’t have an “advanced mode” with “noise reflection” like all the other birds???

I am running my Helix 7 and good so far. I have fished with a Marcum 3 and other Humminbirds. Some inter with the Marcm. Same old story Marcums like Marcums.
