    Another thumbs up to Marcum.
I took my lx-5 in yesterday at 11am. They had me out the door with a new motor by 3pm. Great service. Great company.

That makes you wonder about when you see something negative about there customer support. Is it that someone expects the world to bow down to them? Or just a competitive product owner that doesn’t like to see something positive posted about anything but there product of choice?

I am guessing it just has to do with their personal experiences. MANY more people will post negative interactions with any company online, while the hundreds of thousands of positive experiences are typically not posted online. I am sure every company makes mistakes and drops the ball sometimes, I just hope if any issues ever arise with my VX1P or LX7 Marcum gets it right for me!

The only thing Marcum has to prove to me as a customer currently is the software update fixing the shallow water issues with the digital sonar units…. I personally have not used my LX7 yet (new this year) but after finding out about this issue it really makes me worried (kinda wishing I would have gone with an LX5i). I really just can’t comprehend how a sonar unit that is the “latest and greatest” because it is always updatable is still having issues years into production with shallow targets that so many other cheaper units handle with ease. I’m just hoping my unit works fine in shallow water like many others do, as a software update 5 years later doesn’t fool me, I just work with too many other issues in the HVAC world that “updated software” seems to promise more than it delivers- at least 50% of the time it doesn’t in my experiences. Hopefully I am proven wrong!!!

I use my LX7 in shallow water with no issues. Spend plenty of time getting comfortable making changes to settings until it becomes second nature. It’s a powerful unit with endless possibilities if you know what you are doing.

Marcum needs to tweak near transducer readings in deeper water. That’s the setup folks take issue with, I’ve personally never been able to work through the endless possibilities in 60′ of water to make me happy. It’s a fractional concern to 95% of folks. The Lx7 is a walleye wrangling machine IMO. Crappie, hah .. santa santa

The new digital units are not plug and play like the motor units. When I got my seven I thought what why would I need the scrolling graph for ice fishing? Now I don’t think I could remove it from my screen. Being able to look back and see the bottom had gotten a little taller and that actually something has come in tight to the bottom is priceless to me. Seeing the trail how the fish is following my presentation also big plus. 6 color palette you can actually see the dorsal fins in blue, too me that’s pretty amazing.

That’s the reason I’ve decided to stay with the stone-age Vexilar. I heard a lot of frustration with the deep water capability that I just couldn’t live with. No level of customer service can fix that. I’ve heard a few guys have requested to go to an older firmware version that didn’t have this issue.

I’ve taken my HDS 7 off my boat and turned it into an ice machine. Gps coordinates and lake maps have been an awesome feature. I give the nod to marcum for sure on the sonar quality though.
