Map chips interchangeability

    New to forum.

Just purchased a 2014 Basstracker Pro170. It came with a Humminbird 688 ci HD unit.
I want to purchase a mapping chip. I am wondering if the Lowrance chips will interchange and work on the Humminbird?
From what I have read so far the Lowrance mapping chips have more lakes and the lakes that I fish. I am not sure what lakes are on the Humminbird chip.

    Thank you.

    1. Congrats on the boat purchase.
    2. No, the Lowrance chips won’t work in a Humminbird unit.
    3. I don’t know exactly what you mean by “Lowrance mapping chips” and “Humminbird chip” but I suspect you’re meaning Navionics vs Lakemaster. If that’s the case, its not necessarily true that one had more lakes than the other. Navionics has a lot of poor quality, low definition lake maps.
    4. If by saying “Humminbird chip” you actually mean Lakemaster, you can see the list of lakes that are standard or high definition on the Humminbird website under the Lakemaster/mapping section.
    5. What state/lakes are you primarily fishing? That can be a factor in what map chip is most suitable, but generally I’d say that Lakemaster is the best option.

    blank,

Thank you for the quick response. I am very new to all of this as you can tell. LOL
I have to learn all the technical terms. Thank you for making it better for me.

I will check on the Humminbird site to see if it does list the lakes. I live in In. and want to be able to have some of the smaller lakes shown.

    Thanks again, Ross

You can also update your profile to include location or let us know where you’re talking about. It’s just like cell phone companies. It needs to work where you need it and lake by lake one chip can be better or worse.

I also believe you’re talking the Lakemaster vs Navionics debate. I’ve got both, sometimes it matters, sometimes it doesn’t. You can also go to navionics public web site to see maps too.

I have a Navionics chip in my Humminbird. When I replaced my old Lowrance the old chip would have worked but was old and out of date. I simply paid the upgrade fee and got a new chip with all the current information available and 1 year of free updates to that chip.
