Hey guys me and some buddies are looking to plan a trip for next year. (Bass Fishing) and we were looking around the Mankato and Faribault areas. Actually found a VRBO on Francis. Are the lakes in the area good for bass fishing? Are there any smallmouth to be had? We would try to go the weekend between Mother’s Day and Memorial weekend. I think this should fall in the catch and release season. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Lots of great lakes in this area. Francis has some big bass in it, Tetonka is a great lake and you can find some smallmouth I believe, I took a 5.1 pound largemouth out of there last year. Madison lake has a large quantity of 3+ pounders. Washington and the Jeffersons both have a lot of bass too with some big ones roaming around.

Tetonka, Sakatah and Cannon will have SMB and LMB in them as they are part of the Cannon River system. If you’re into white bass, Tetonka is great for them.

Francis, Jefferson and German are great lakes for LMB. There is a very healthy population of Pike in all 3 of those lakes, so be ready for them also. My parents live on German and fish it regularly. Getting behind the island can be a very tough thing to do if you don’t know how to get back there. I would advise to not even try getting back there from the south side unless you enjoy watching your prop playing hopscotch with rocks.
