Let me start by saying I have zero pics of the week we spent goose and duck hunting in Manitoba, sorry about that bawling I am very disappointed in myself doah

6 of us headed up to the Brandon area for 5 days of waterfowl hunting on our annual trip. Things looked promising as we got close to our destination with geese in many of the fields. When we got there and got unpacked we headed out scouting. We found one great field full of geese that we planned to hit the next morning. We located a spot and gps’d it then got out of there. The field was wheat that had been harvested, straw taken off, then chisel plowed. Very tough to hide the layout blinds in, but the geese were in there. That evening it began to rain and rained most of the next day, a light rain. When the geese did decide to go out to feed which was about 1-2 hours later than normal they had other destination in mind, so our shooting was very limited.

We scouted a new area that evening and had a good field again. The next 2 days were overcast to partly sunny, wind about 10-15mph and the shooting was much better. We ended up 2 short of the limit one day and 1 short the next for Canada geese and 3 snows as a bonus.

With the week half over, the field muddy as heck, the crew getting worn down and needed quite a few birds to fill our limits we buckled down and again found new areas to hunt. Most fields were either canola or flax and geese won’t touch either one. The few wheat fields had very poor cover, but the geese were using them. We did ok the last few days on geese and darn good on mallards and gadwalls. Ended up coming home short of our limit, but the hunting was really fun. Our shoulders were severely beaten from all the 3.5″ shells we shot, we were worn out, all our equipment was muddy and wet, but we all had a smile on our face reflecting on the week we just spent in Manitoba. Bird numbers were decent again this year, both geese and ducks, actually the mallard numbers were higher than we have seen in a few years. Friday another push of northern birds came in, but unfortunately we had to leave early Saturday morning. It was another great hunt and we are already signed up and looking forward to next year chased chased
