Meanwhile, as a healthcare provider dealing directly with covid patients, I am still re-using N95 masks and there are concerns that hospitals in the south are running short on them again with their increased spread

Didn’t you used to post under your real name, and you are a chiropractor correct?

Nope, I was a “lurker” for a very long time, started posting fairly recently

So what do you do in the medical field?

Thanks, and sorry I got you confused with Dontworry Aboutit.

I’m hoping everyone that is refusing to wear masks is also going to refuse potential medical treatment in the event it’s needed. Your desire to not wear a mask is all fine and dandy until it potentially puts nurses/doctors/etc at risk because of your negligence. The anti-maskers should have to sign a waiver saying that by refusing to wear a mask, they are also not allowed medical treatment.

    Blah blah blah whatever.

Masks are not to protect the wearer, so I’m told. Maybe mask wearers should have to sign a waiver because if they get sick, they did something wrong.

Witness the socialist/communist/collectivist thought process. They actually believe they can control the entire medical field and every single worker within it. To use that in an effort to impose their opinions on you against your consent. This is why they a want government takeover of your health care. There is no end to their desire to control you.

There is no shortage of people imposing their opinions on other people anywhere, especially not here, regardless of your political affiliation

Yeah you really don’t want medicine/insurance to go down that road. Smoker? No treatment for you. Drinker? You knew the risks. Torn ACL playing football? No surgery coverage, obvious risk.

I did not read this whole thread or will but I will give you my opinion on the mask..

A mask is very similar to a condom. It is there to protect you and an individual in contact with you..

When used correctly every time you have sex, male condoms are 98% effective. However there are many brands/styles and not all are as effective as others.

    Are they uncomfortable… Yes.
Do they make you look funny.. Yes.
Does everyone use them correct.. No.
Do they all fit correct. No, some buy them that are too big whistling
Are you supposed to use one? Yes
Are they mandatory? No.. Especially around the wife.
Lastly if you wear a dirty one while in the car alone.. Your only screwing yourself.

That’s all I have right now but please feel free to add to the list coffee

I think that’s a fair (and funny) comparison, but the question is if masks are like modern condoms, or like cheese cloth condoms. Do masks actually work in slowing the spread or does the science disagree? I’ve read the CIDRAP stuff saying they don’t really do much and may have negative side effects, and I’ve read other studies that say they do. I’m open to the right answer, if anyone can provide it.

I’m not a medical doctor but White House health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci says he has “no doubt” that Americans who aren’t wearing face masks, especially in large crowds, are increasing the risk of spreading the coronavirus.

I’ll go by his recommendation and wear a mask. I don’t want to be responsible for infecting anyone if I happen to be infected and vice versa if I can help it. Evidently science says masks help if Fauci recommends them.

Even Fauci originally was saying they don’t help, and round and round we go. Thankfully I’ve been avoiding large crowds for years #OriginalSocialDistancer

Everyone so serious today.. I have a few more for ya. getting dirty. hope thats ok?? Tell me if i am going over the line here and I can delete it.

Both make you feel like your cheating on the spouse in bed.. He picks his favorite actress, prints it on a mask and has her wear it.. She gets to pick what color the condom is. (doesn’t change size though)

Neither are effective if you tear a hole in it.

    Both can leave a rash.

Atta boy Blank. I like the spirit.

    Couple more..

I have caught both while fishing on the Mississippi river..

Both can be found littered on the ground at the boat launch on the Mississippi river here in St Paul.

Neither are very effective if you make it at home with an old T-shirt.

Well its now Mandatory here in Saint Cloud in Public buildings. Doing a little research, I cant seem to find what all is considered a public building. The fine for those who don’t do so is 250.00. They say businesses are required to enforce it in their businesses or their license can be revoked. Now in addition to running their business, they have to act as a enforcement officer. Now the Million $ question is who is going to enforce it. Just what police officers need to be doing these days – Enforcing this. They are already at a point where they don’t even want to interact with the public.

I am sure this is a quick google but does anyone know if the other cities that have mandates also have a fine attached?

I am sure a lot of it will rely on complaints from the public. Apparently a bunch of restaurants and bars have gotten citations or warnings for not following the guidelines

I’ve seen fines for some cities. I believe Minnetonka and Duluth for sure.

I’ve seen other cities, counties and states say either the first offense is a verbal or written warning and second is a fine. I’ve also see an somewhere they actually state it won’t be enforced.

I suspect the governor’s office will be the only ones enforcing it on businesses. I highly doubt any fines will ever be written.

Matt, am I missing something? Doesn’t the governor’s office have nothing to do with it at this point? This is a city putting the rule in, presumably to be enforced by a local police force

my understanding is that a public building is any building that can be accessed by anyone. A private employer is not one as I understand it.

From what rumor I heard Walz is going to mandate it tomorrow. Not sure the effective date.

Werm, this is why I’m on the fence about this. In my 12 years of being on an ambulance and working in a hospital it has been a staple that surgical masks do not protect you against airborne germs. That is why every time we have an pt with airborne precautions you wear an n-95. Now, do they protect the people AROUND you, I don’t know and I’m not sure. But it’s the same fabric on the inside as the outside of the mask so I’m not sure how it would make it any different if the airflow was going in our going out.

For the record I’m not against masks. I’m just not sure they are doing us any good ESPECIALLY when 80% of the people I see when I’m out and about are wearing them incorrectly not to mention that most people probably aren’t washing the cloth ones and reusing the surgical style, which are designed to be one offs.

The gov made it mandatory for restaurant and bar staff to wear masks. I forgot to mention that the gov was announcing a statewide mandate in the next 48 hours.

I think the difference is that masks aren’t meant to be 100% effective like an N95 in a healthcare setting (or close to it). They are just generally meant to limit or slow the spread. If there is a benefit to be had there does need to be better communication and education on how to do it correctly

How about when people want to talk with someone and pull their mask down to do it…..defeats the whole purpose.

Totally ridiculous. Walk into restaurant wearing a mask sit down and then take it off. children under 5 are exempt form wearing masks. Small children put their mouth’s on everything, dirty hands spit etc… They are kids that is what they do even well mannered kids. Now you can wear anything that covers your mouth and nose no list of acceptable masks so people are wearing fashion scarfs, bandanas and other worthless types that do absolutely nothing to help any one. Mask shaming and government overreach at its finest.

Pence says masks help turn the tide in Arizona and is encouraging other governors to enact the same guidelines…
