I am aware of the hurdles, yes. I just think that 8 months ago most people would never have believed that this country would be floundering on this issue like it is and I am surprised more people aren’t appalled by it now

South Korea started a program months ago to ensure everyone had access to KN95 masks and limited the profits on the sale to pennies per mask, seems like we could have done something similar. Meanwhile, as a healthcare provider dealing directly with covid patients, I am still re-using N95 masks and there are concerns that hospitals in the south are running short on them again with their increased spread

How long are you expected to wear the same mask? We are told 5 shifts minimum.

I opted for the PAPR because I felt more secure when working the surge units.

so why has our country done so much worse than many other countries who require masks? I agree though they “don’t prevent anything thing” lol

My prognostication is that COVID will suddenly be a moot point beginning Nov 4th, if Biden wins.

Does anyone actually believe that countries with much higher population densities and worse healthcare systems (than the US) have fewer cases and deaths?!

I know plenty of people that are appalled, including me. But we take care of the world, supposedly that is what we want. That means less supply for us when crisis hits, especially when crisis hit overseas first. I can only assume the goal now is to supply HC and not the overall public. I am smart enough to know it is out of any one man, political party, manufactures, etc’s, hands.

We have 3 that we are rotating between. Storing in bags when not in use. Some UV sterilization but they don’t seem to fit as well after getting zapped a couple times

Many of these countries do not have the same distrust in government or elected officials, and therefore collectively more closely follow guidelines. Some also have more social programs in place that allowed workers to remain quarantined. (Or, super authoritarian governments that locked them up.)
Additionally, a lot of the Asian countries have been through more, and more recent, pandemic scares and take it upon themselves to take preventative measures.
A lot of it comes down to cultural differences, not necessarily the overall quality of the healthcare systems in each location.

While you put forth a rational response, if you’ve been to India or China, you would find it difficult to believe this theory.

I didn’t read this entire thread but I did have an interesting relevant experience this past weekend that clearly illustrates the hysteria and stupidity that goes along with this. I’m not disputing the possibility that masks may or may not be helpful but this…

Spent the weekend in Grand Marais MN. Mostly tourists filtering through this town which the locals need to survive in the short season for them. They have a strong campaign about wearing masks in stores (fine with that) and social distancing to keep their community healthy which makes total sense. Most stores have a policy about the number of patrons allowed inside at one time also. Again, makes perfect sense. However, one ass clown had a method of keeping track of the numbers in their art gallery. Inside the door was a box of rocks with a sign – “No more than 6 customers allowed inside at one time. Please grab a rock from the box. If there are no rocks in the box, please wait for the next customer to leave and bring a rock back to the box”
WTH? No hand sanitizer by the entrance/box of rocks either like almost every other store had. So, in a pandemic, make sure you handle our Covid infested stones so we can feel better about the amount of people in our store.

I thought I about going in and bringing our own rocks.

Ha that’s funny or maybe you should have taken all the rocks and waited to see when the owner realized he didn’t have any customers inside.

We were out of town today so masking was sort of an optional thing with me if I was simply running in for a soda or something. Returning home to Rochester we went into Fleet Farm for a couple items quick and then Mr. D’s market for one item so I didn’t bother with a mask having forgotten that today was “the” day. Nobody said boo to me about a mask anywhere.

Not to be a dick because you do have a good point but if everyone really cared about sanitization, it will never be effective unless you avoid touching your face and sanitize immediately after leaving anywhere. It really comes down to what you do.

It’s not like you rely on the butcher or meat processor to assure that your product is always 100% pathogen free. You are still required to cook it accordingly to minimize your risk of disease.

I followed a guy into KT yesterday with no mask on, as he approached the door, he took a plastic shopping bag out of his pocket. He then put it on his right hand, opened the KT door. As soon as he was inside he removed it with his left hand, not turning it inside out and put it back in his pocket. He went to the milk cooler and opened up the cooler door and grabbed what he needed and used cash at the counter. Got his change back and exited the store.

So what was the reason for the plastic bag to open the door? Maybe right after I jump on the mask bandwagon I’ll try the plastic bag on my hand trick?

Hi FTE. Just a random question; do you belong to a union in your healthcare position?

I am not part of a union, no

OK, no implication one way or the other. Just wondering if the workforce being ‘organized’ makes a difference in these matters.

Of course you can’t trust anything out of China or any other police state, although you can’t believe anything coming from our government either. So many people die in India they have no way of knowing. I’m guessing this is raging in the shanty towns.

Can data from Europe be trusted? They seem to be doing much better than us, which is pretty embarrassing.

Shows a lack of a clear message, plain and simple. Yes, people are stupid, this is exactly why we need a clear message from our leaders.

Not as far I know or am concerned. I can ask some nurses or other union members if you are really curious. Are you referring to politics or covid btw?

Meanwhile, as a healthcare provider dealing directly with covid patients, I am still re-using N95 masks and there are concerns that hospitals in the south are running short on them again with their increased spread

Didn’t you used to post under your real name, and you are a chiropractor correct?
