so what happens now to people who are legally carrying guns and are forced to wear masks? does that make them a felon? i thought it was against the law to carry firearms while masked.

“A person whose identity is concealed by the person in a public place by means of a … mask, or other disguise, unless based on religious beliefs, or incidental to amusement, entertainment, protection from weather, or medical treatment, is guilty of a misdemeanor.”

    Minnesota Statutes §609.735 CONCEALING IDENTITY.

This is regardless if your carry or not. In Minnesota, wearing a mask in public is still a crime, and has been since the 1960s. Obviously not enforced.

Dane County-Madison WI is now dropping the mask hammer too.

And in an incredible spin, the Dane County announcement manages to spin racism into the mix as well…incredible!

Don’t look now, but these mandates could be coming to your hometown soon.

Dane County to enforce mandatory mask policy next week

Mr. Beads, Minnesota always had more than 250 ICU beds total. Near the start of the pandemic MDH said there were 250 ICU beds available in the state which is a pretty typical number I think. They have since increased the overall number and have plans in place for surge capacity up to 3700 total if necessary. Hospitals run like most businesses and don’t want a lot of unused product laying around.

Side note: I ended up at a Walmart in northern Wisconsin to buy a Wisc. Fishing license this weekend and probably 85% of people were wearing masks, I was pretty shocked by that.

Like banning smoking indoors, thus eliminating second hand smoke to innocent people? Raising the minimum age to purchase tobacco?

Once again your missing my point. If it is the governments job to keep people safe and limit death – Why is smoking still allowed at all ?????

Mr. Beads, Minnesota always had more than 250 ICU beds total.

As stated I found a site at the very beginning of this and went hospital to hospital counting the total in the state, and it was around 300 or so. Article I referenced earlier I misread,my apologies.

Sure would like to see a count before covid if anyone has one.
I stick by my 300 mark until proven otherwise wave

The media tends to misstate the situation. They imply ICU’s, etc. are typically empty and now COVID is filling them up. Hospitals are like any other business, they’re designEd to accommodate a baseline number of patients with a little surge capacity built in. It’s not like they have entire facilities waiting empty for a pandemic. Patient flow (discharges) is an important part of hospital operations to keep beds open in a normal environment. That said, most hospitals were already busy before this and still seem to be accommodating COVID on top of it.

Two questions for the anti-vaxxers, er- I mean the anti-maskers.

    1) do you wear your seat belt when you are in a vehicle?

    2) if yes, do you do it because it improves your chances at avoiding injuries in the event of a crash? Or do you do it because it’s a law?

I wear a seatbelt to survive a crash, not to protect the other people involved in the crash.

I originally did it because it was the law. After all of these years and the habit of doing it, I would probably still continue to wear it even if it wasn’t law. I still do not believe that the Government should have the right to require I wear a seat belt. I find it a little funny you are required to wear a seat belt with a lot of protection around you – While at the same time you can drive a motorcycle without a helmet. Wearing a mask is a completely different situation. Wearing the seat belt does nothing to protect others. Its there to protect yourself. I’m being told that I should wear a mask not to protect myself but to protect others. Once again the # of healthy less than 70 year old people who are getting this and ending up in the ICU is REALLY REALLY low.

Missed your correction, my bad. Here is an article that listed the following icu bed numbers from March 18th
    Minneapolis: 610
    Rochester: 240
    St. Paul: 180
    St. Cloud: 45
    Duluth: 220

    Thanks for that!
Again, I think the confusion of “we only have 250 ICU beds” went back to the lack of context around that. That’s not the total number of beds occupied/unoccupied, but rather the number of beds available/unoccupied.
So according to the MN Covid dashboard, 1025 ICU beds are in use (dated 7/5) and on that date there were 131 covid patients in ICU. Thus 894 ICU patients were non-covid.
The current ICU capacity is 1255, so 230 beds available/unoccupied immediately for whatever need, covid or otherwise.

    Yup, thanks for the clarification.

I brought up the article bc it was a quick reference for me, but at the beginning I did the math, and now I’m wondering where the duece I got the stats from. Dissappointed in myself a bit honestly bc I’ve brought up that point to many.

If it’s this low still I’m going to the freakin bar…..

So we wear a mask when out and around people. What is wrong from helping others. You could be one of the people who show no symptoms. Or maybe like me, your one of the people it affects badly. Why not try to help fellow citizens instead of worry about your rights being hurt. Yes it may run its course and be no more problem, but then again it could be around for a long time. I can still go fishing and still buy bait. Just try to stay healthy and use comments sense.

Get out of here with your “helping others talk.” This is America.

My opinions on the mask deal are pretty neutral. If you don’t like the mandate, don’t go where it exists. I don’t like wearing a mask but understand the reasoning. Therefore, I stay relatively local in this rural area and have large department store type purchases done online for household goods. I can go to the bait shop, store, gas station, and most local businesses without a mask. I also understand that this area has very few cases and the reason is because people are staying local, aren’t packing bars, taking distant vacations, etc.

Wearing the seat belt does nothing to protect others. Its there to protect yourself.

This is simply not true. Anyone who has been a first responder long enough has likely seen some dead people with teeth in the back of their skull. Less likely, but still very possible is being killed by someone beside you in a rollover or side impact.

I am a lot of meat to sling unrestrained around a metal box. You would not want to be in that box.

What if you work where it exists? People gotta work and being forced to wear a mask where it is dangerous and will do nothing when you aren’t even around other people is completely asinine.
