Mandatory masks!?

Let’s be honest Suzuki, if no one is going to enforce the mask policy, it won’t do any good. If there aren’t any cops there to stop the riots, looting, or arson, it will continue to happen. Laws and rules are only as good as the willingness to enforce them.

If there is a policy, I would follow it. Im not with the “laws for thee and not for me” crowd.
Right now there are no mask laws where I live and frequent, so its up to me. There is enough information out there to support every perspective and every argument. Therefore I must choose what to believe and how to react.

That’s actually a pretty good response. Well played

Let’s look at the numbers realistically. Minnesota has a population of about 5.6mil. The latest Covid dashboard shows 1025 people in ICU. If my math is correct that is about .018 percent of the population. And of that a large portion will survive. Minnesota had well over 300 automobile fatalities in 2019. That should put Covid into perspective. I’m tired of the news agencies and social media going on about big numbers with no context. Covid 19 should be respected not feared.

Beads, where did you hear that the state only had 250 beds before covid? I had not heard that before.

I think this pandemic has proven how ill-prepared our health care system is when it comes to emergency preparedness, with the early lack of bed and ventilator capacity, and PPE supply.

Numerous articles, one quoted Walz specifically on it that I found this morning. I also personally counted up hospital by hospital beds when the virus first hit. Thought my count was around 300, but either way doesn’t change the argument.

Feel free to look it up, I also would be curious. I appreciate clarity, and if better info is out there I’m all ears! Quarantine and masks suck ball$, but is the right thing to do in my searching.

Yes, I agree. Let’s not be the next LA County, Houston, or South Florida. Prevention is a far better solution. We can learn from these other problematic locations in other parts of the country right now.

I like that too Suzuki. This is my only social media so when I am pissed I might sound off here. Reality is I follow the rules that are in place. I hardly go anywhere anyway. I also don’t publicly point and laugh at people either That I don’t agree with.

I was close though when I passed a guy masked while riding his lawnmower in rural Le Sueur County.

Those cities/states flaring up have one thing in common. Oppressive summer heat. It forces people to congregate indoors when venues open up. Up here we are a lot more spread outside. I agree we need to limit indoor social gathering. But at the same time I am very much against ruining our economy and way of life to do it. Torn.

    Beads,
My very quick and brief Google searching doesn’t seem to come up with a solid number of how many ICU beds the state had prior to covid. I’ve heard a few articles that mention around 235 beds available, but I can’t decipher if that is the number of beds open/not used at the time, or total number of beds regardless of current use. I get the sense that it’s the number not in use. I do remember early on being confused with the terminology, or lack of details regarding the numbers.

I’m in no way trying to dispute what you heard. I am truly curious to know what our state’s health care system had for capacity, but getting clear facts is hard and frustrating.

Maybe the CDC itself is to blame?? They initially lied and said masks do not protect you against the virus. And now why would anyone wonder there is confusion and division about wearing a mask?

I agree that the entire scientific communities responses have been inconsistent and that has caused confusion and probably exacerbated the issue

Better yet compare Covid death to those caused by smoking. If it was really about preventing deaths why would they not do anything to stop people from smoking – Way more peoples lives would be saved by that by far. Oh Ya Smoking generates a ton of tax revenue – Oh I guess the deaths are OK then. If the government could find a way to somehow tax the effects of Covid what are the chances that we would be even having any discussion on this whole covid issue.

Last I checked if you are smoking outside and then stand next to me in the grocery store I don’t think I will get lung cancer rotflol It doesn’t bother me if someone dies from lung cancer from something they choose to do.

dont complain when you get it then.im sure

I won’t. Then again, I like a lot of other people possibly already have and did not even know it. Life is a risk. I take my chances anytime I get in a car and drive someplace, I take my chances when I eat food that is not good for me, Ect. But I know my chances and I make the decision to do so anyway. This is no different to me. If you are afraid of getting it, Then stay home alone.

The mayor of Rochester is pleeding for Walz to require masks state wide. The businesses in Rochester are loosing business to the surrounding area that are not requiring masks.

Did they lie or change their opinion? Seems to me the latter.

They admitted it was a lie. Early on they did not want health care workers to run out of masks. So they lied to the public in order to prevent a run on the supply chain.

Once again my point is – If its the governments job to protect peoples health and save lives – Why not do something that is far more effective. Which do you believe has more negative effect on the overall health and death totals in the US, Covid or Smoking ????

I think there is a silent majority who agree with Suzuki. Especially once you get out of the cities. Count me as one of them.

Like banning smoking indoors, thus eliminating second hand smoke to innocent people? Raising the minimum age to purchase tobacco?

Here’s a classic example of the confusion.

Do masks prevent you from getting infected, or prevent you from spreading it to other’s?

My understanding is the latter, to prevent from spreading to other’s.

So maybe the CDC didn’t lie when they said “masks do not prevent you from getting the virus” crazy

    Yes, so true Jon.

Here, away from the cities in Garrison…masks are a rare sight.

Whether it be the grocery store, liquor store, gas/convenience store, local bars…masks are a very rare sight. Like almost nobody.

I bought a couple masks of all places at the liquor store here in town a couple months ago.

I confess, haven’t worn one yet other than to try it on and see if it made me look cute. razz

You must not have seen me up there in June at Portside or the liquor store in Onamia on the way home. I did get some quizzical looks though. Is there a smilie with a mask?
