Managing minnows in the baitwell

Curious how you all are managing your minnows in the baitwell. I’ve used a bag as well as just letting them free in the baitwell and using a larger sized net making catching them easy. I haven’t tried a plastic minnow bucket fit into the round recessed portion of the baitwell.

What is the best way you all have found for this baitwell or livewell for minnows? I have a 2018 MX2040 for reference.

Keep mine in a cooler with blue ice blocks, have a bottle in the minnow water, pour the water back in from a few feet up to get them oxygen-a cool minnow is a happy minnow IMO.

Fleet Farm sells a bait bucket that fits perfect in either. Comes in 2 pieces, a bucket and then the bucket that sits in the baitwell.

I am interested in the engel bait coolers, too. Cooler comes with mesh net and aerator. Would work great for both open and hard water.

I use an Engel cooler with an aerator. I’ll add ice to it as the water warms up throughout the day. I usually try to save my bait anyways, so keeping them in a separate cooler makes that part of it much easier.

I forgot to mention that I also have the large Engel cooler. Yeah, they work really well for sure. I have a large version that I usually keep back at the resort cabin and was thinking about grabbing a small version for the boat.

In the spring when the water is plenty cool I’d rather just use the baitwell – one less thing in the boat.

I use a 48 qt Coleman cooler with a bilge pump on the bottom with holes drilled in output hose. Water gets warm throw in some ice, For catfish, its the same setup but with a 95 qt cooler. DK. Hose goes to the top of the water, shoots downwards.

    Thanks for sharing.

I throw ice in it and use it as a cooler for the day- works great!
