Truth be told we were more than a bit rusty at the start. I don’t want to speak for Pat but it took awhile for us to get back in the groove but once we found our rhythm it felt like old hat!

Here’s episode #1 from Rainy River.

Next week we’ll be chasing muskie out of Crawford’s Camp up in Sioux Narrows, Ontartio, and at the risk of spilling the beans, it is going to be hard for us to top the size and numbers of fish we put in the boat in episode 2! If you like big fish with teeth… you’ll want to tune into next week’s show. chased

Now, as far as episode 3 is concerned, we’re teetering… ice or open water?! As it sits right now I’m thinking we’ll be in the boat waiting for skim ice to get a little thicker but we won’t make that call until the Sunday after the holiday when we all gather back at the studio prior to departing for the next shoot. Personally I’m hoping for ice!

Another great job by yourself and the crew. I’ll enjoy the Muskie show and pray you get on ice for 1 episode sometime in Feb. Until then I’d be happy with open water. wink

If you guys were rusty it sure didn’t show. Good show! Also interesting to see plastics versus minnows.

So far they’re very smooth with a very good drag at the price point. Time will tell on durability. I just started fishing them earlier this summer. So far so good.

Hey James, What open water rods are you using? Are they part of the Tuned Up Custom Line?

James, I previously read with interest your posts regarding trolling motor spot-lock/anchor. I felt your frustration. Wondering if you will try a new model this year like the MK Ultrex? It looked like from the show you still have the Ulterra but I wasn’t 100% sure.

No, that’s a Okuma Helios spinning rod. Tuned Up does make a darn nice spinning rod but for an under-$200 price point the Helios HS-SKR-701ML is a fantastic rod that doesn’t break the bank.

I do still have the Ulterra and the spot lock and auto-pilot rarely gets used in my boat due to the issues I’ve shared in previous threads. I’d be open to running the Ultrex in the future but I don’t want one bad enough to re-rig my current boat just to get one on the bow. Maybe next year.

I look forward to your review once you’ve had some time under your belt with it on the water.

James what other posts have you written about your Ulterra?

Mine was born on 5-5-2015 I believe. I received it and installed in my boat later that month It is an Ulterra 112# 60″ us2 with I-Pilot Link. I have had only a couple of issues and just now headed it in for warranty work. There were 4 “updates” that it received in hardware. I will not know the effected changes until I get it back out in the spring.

Didn’t the updates include the tighter circle for the spot lock?

Great show guys! Parts of me wishes I would have been doing that instead of deer hunting but I wasn’t on the couch so I won’t complain to much. On a side note, my old man was just up in the angle and they did well catching crappies and walleye. Good luck chasing the muskies.

Sufix 832 in 10lb. I did have about 4 foot of flouro leader as well. That leader was eft over from the day prior when we fished a lake with very clear water but I’m confident it wasn’t actually needed.

u did a show years ago on season 5 on the rainy river using moxi”s did u use a super line then and if so did u use a mono leader or do u need to for that type of fishing?

    @grizz

Yes, we were using a braid then as well. Sufix 832. No leader is needed on the Rainy River due to the reduced water clarity in my opinion.

One reason I will run a floro leader is so there is a week link to break for snags.
