Makita battery strength

I bought a k drill 8 inch and I’m in the market for the appropriate drill. I see Makita has comparable model (Makita XPH07Z LXT Lithium Ion Brushless Cordless Hammer Driver Drill with Tool 1/2-Inch). I’m leaning toward this due to having Makita tools already and having four 3.0ah batteries, but I see that the XPH07Z LXT comes with 5.0ah batteries. Will that drill work with my 3.0 ah batteries, and will it get the top torque? Im hoping I will get less holes with the 3.0 ah batteries. What do you guys think?

Get away from Makita. My last ion drill burned up after about a year of work use. My new one now is starting to have issues as well. I mix a slop of sorts in buckets here and there, floor levelor, etc so it sees that kind of extended use stuff and wouldn’t trust it on the ice for the long term. My 2 cents.

3 and 5 batteries are pretty small, think I run 7s.

Same voltage, 5ah batteries will just last longer.

I use Makita 18v 3amp with Nils 6”. Works great! I don’t have to use spare battery. I did buy 5a batteries for my Makita circular saw and I will use those on ice. Also I prefer the drill driver over the hammer drill.

You should be using something like a Milwaukee hole hawg or an actual mixer. Cordless drills are not made to be mixing floor levelers

Thanks for the input. I guess all I was asking for is a yes or no answer. Will a Makita XPH07Z LXT Lithium Ion Brushless Cordless Hammer Driver Drill in 1/2 inch, with a 3.0ah battery work with an 8 inch k-drill?

I started using that exact drill late last year. I stuck with Makita since I already had a couple of 3Ah batteries (if your batteries are LXT they should work). I move a lot and drill lot of holes. Using a 6” auger (Nils orange), I found that one 3Ah battery would last 4-6hrs of hard fishing (depending on the temperature). Usually, after I had to swap out the first battery, I would keep the second in my pocket. Even after 12hrs+ of hard fishing, I never ran out of juice on the second battery. I found that as long as I kept the battery warm, I got full power until they were out of juice. Likewise, with cold battery, I did not get full power even when fully charged. So, if you feel like you are not getting full power, warm the battery, and you should get back to full power.

Jeff, i used that exact drill last winter with a clam plate and 8″ mora. I would get around 15-20 holes in 20″s of ice with 3.0 batteries. This year i will try some 5.0s. Im sure youd get alot more with a smaller auger, but i like 8″.

Perfect thanks guys. I know everyone likes the milwawauke, but for right now that Makita is in a better price range for already having 4 batteries for it. I’m not looking to drill hundreds of holes with it. It’s mostly for the ice castle. Thanks again everyone.
