“M-Y Wedge” Transom Saver for Tritoon

Who has the “M-y Wedge” transom savers and do they seem to do their intended job? Second, how do you know which specific one you need? For reference, it’s for a 2016 tritoon with a 2016 Mercury 150hp Four Stroke.

I’ve heard the debates of traditional vs. wedge vs. none at all. My fishing boat uses a traditional one, but the tritoon trailer lights are in the way for the same style. 99% of the time we trailer 2 miles to the river and don’t use one, but we’ve got a couple lengthy trips coming where I’d prefer the peace of mind using one.

I use one for a 75h Yamaha… It didn’t have the traditional transom saver when I bought it and I didn’t like relying on the little metal clip that you flip over.

I would just call the marine dealer you are wanting to order from and they would be able to tell you which transom saver would work for your motor. I had ordered a MY Wedge originally but I needed a different type based on my motor.

I’ve had no issues in 2 years of use – mostly been on 40-80 mile trips.

I’ve been using a My-Wedge on a Yamaha F150 on a 386XF Stratos for 13 years and thousands of miles with no problems with the transom or the tilt/trim hydraulics.
Back then I called My-Wedge and they set me up with the right one.

Are they better that is debatable. But it is definitely better than nothing at all.

Happy my wedge customer with no transom issues or lower unit issues in 12 years.

I view the mywedge as more of a “hydraulics saver” than a transom saver but I do think it helps the transom a bit too because the motor seems steadier put down on the mywedge than supported by hydraulics alone.

I have a 2020 1875 ProGuide with a 90 Yamaha SHO. The dealer said the My-Wedge is all they’ve been putting on boats for several years. I called Yamaha and they said use something, either My-Wedge or the bar-type. The dealer took a My-Wedge and cut some off so the motor wasn’t so high with the My-Wedge in place and the motor trimmed down.
I have been happy using it. I think it’s easier to use than the bar type.

I also got the My-Wedge centering clips to keep the motor straight while trailering.

I think Reef is correct, they’re more for hydraulics. I used one for a year, then saw what some friends on tour are using. All theirs are ones that go between shaft and transom, much easier and same concept, but not attached to trailer

Lower unit and transom has way more stress going 40-50 bouncing in waves than a road will ever have.

Run the Universal My Wedge on my Suzuki tiller. As stated previously, the moment on a transom on highway is negligible compared to the dynamics in water. I run the Wedge to save hydraulics, but I think peace of mind is the biggest reason. It could very well serve no benefit.

On my Skeeter with a Yammi F150 I use what Yamaha sent with the boat. It is a nylon cylinder with rubber ends and goes over 1 of the TT cylinders. No problems in 10 years. If Skeeter/Yamaha sent it with the boat when new I assume it is sufficient. I also use the centering clips for holding the engine straight when trailering.

Don’t most large motors have something very similar to the wedge built right into the motor?

    My 250SHO didn’t….

I used the MyWedge with no issues. I will say you don’t need a lot of trim pressure on it when its one though. I split the white casing on my mywedge by putting to much force on it a few times. Thats my own fault though.

My next boat will have the DD26 version which is a bit more stout. A little pricy but I am ok with that.

Using it on a 40hp Yamaha for the last year no problems. I did have to cut it down a couple inches to fit though.

I use it. Ive forgotten about it a couple times. Squished it. I’m sure that’s not good.

Yamaha F150 and use the wedge. not sure if it works as well as a traditional transom saver? I almost want to go back to the traditional just so the motor stays straight while towing. first year I used it, my wedge kept my motor straight every trip. last year i couldn’t go 2 miles and the motor was off to the side? this year in the handful of trips, my motor is mostly straight when i leave my house and mostly straight when i arrive at my landing. these are 1 hour drives. i initially thought i was low on hydraulic fluid because my motor would make a strange noise when trimming up or down. now i have no idea why it was doing this last year and not this year?

For those of you who want to stop your motor from turning from side to side or just turning getting a set of these. I have been using them as long as I have used the MY Wedge with no issues. Just don’t forget to remove them before launching.

Agree need centering clips with a wedge…kind of a given as you need something to keep a motor straight.

That’s what I use. Came with my F150.

On my previous boat with a wheel, I used a transom saver bar and bungeed the steering wheel to the driver’s seat pedestal to keep the motor straight.

Not to get too off topic. But I’ve got a Yamaha 200hp with seastar steering and have never used the centering clips that came with the boat. Never had the motor move from center and have made plenty of 6+hr drives? I use a my wedge type transom saver that came with it (skeeter)

My Yamaha 150 with seastar steering stayed straight for the 1st 9 years then I had to use clips to keep it straight. Last fall I had to have the seastar cylinder rebuilt, now it stays straight on it’s own but I use the clips because I’m used to using them. If you have hydraulic assist steering and the motor is turning to one side the seals in your cylinder are starting to fail.
