Any opinions on which unit would be better for crappie fishing through the ice?

    How much money ya got?

2d sonar is the $hit on ice, which equates to graph mode for lx-7. The lx is what 750? Helix few hundo? If u can afford the lx probably get better separation and easier controls for adjusting, but the helix will absolutely work too!

Had a 597 on ice, now an elite 5, and both catch alot of fish. Helix would be same if not better.

if you fish alone the helix will work fine in most situations, however, you will have issues with target separation and any time you fish with anyone else using vexlar or Marcum they will give you so much interference its not worth using the helix.. I have the the lx7 and like it a lot. but if I was in the market now I would have to look real hard at the FL28.

The Gen 1 units painted a bad picture for me on the ice. They are great on the boat, however. TS and IR were a big issue for me. The mapping feature is what had me sold over the LX series. I would honestly still buy a G1 Helix over the LX strictly based on mapping. The new Gen 2 units seem like a huge step forward for the ice market as they hopefully fixed the downfall of the Gen 1 units on ice. I would pick the G2 Helix units over the LX, but it is all preference. Play with both at the store and make the decision based on your needs.
