Just follow the instructions……5 minutes and I was done…worked fine….

System requirements – PC only computer with 2.0 USB port and a 2.0 USB cable. Do not attempt upgrade without 2.0 port or cable.
Save the LX7main.bin file from the MarCum website to your desktop (do not change the file name or extension).
Plug in a USB 2 cable to your computer. DO NOT plug it into the LX7 display at this point.
Remove the LX7 display from the gimbal
Remove the transducer from the LX7 display
Plug in power to the display from the 12v9amp battery provided with the LX7
Press and hold the down arrow, continue to hold the down arrow then press and hold the power button together until the screen flashes and you see the LX7 logo appear on the screen.
Release both buttons, and listen for the chirping. Chirping will remain consistent. If the unit powers off you have held the buttons down too long.
Plug in the USB cable to the LX7 display (your computer should automatically recognize the external LX7 device). If not go into My Computer and you should see the external LX7 storage device. It could take your computer several minutes to recognize the LX7 storage device.
Warning: If you see a message stating, “this process could perform faster with USB 2”. STOP– you will need to try a different USB port on your computer until you do not receive this message.
Drag the file from your desktop to the external LX7 device that popped up on your computer
Listen for the long steady beep followed by chirping
When you hear the chirping, safely eject using the “safely remove hardware” icon normally found on the bottom right hand corner of the screen of your computer.
Power down the LX7 display using the power button
    Replace the rubber USB plug
    Reassemble the LX7

It looks like you’re dragging the file to a “read me” file, and not to the “LX-7 device” itself. Can you expand the file tree of the external device that shows up when you plug the the unit into your computer so that it shows “LX-7 device”?

Hope that makes sense and helps.

Yes that’s exactly what the file reads. READ ME. NOT sure how to expand file to get it to read lx7 instead?

Try printing out a copy of the instructions that Mudshark posted.

Open “Windows Explorer” and then follow the instructions for the update.

It may take a couple of minutes for External Device LX7 to show up on the bottom of your Windows Explorer file tree (kind of like an MP3 player or a USB memory stick does.) If it doesn’t appear, unplug the USB cable and plug it in again and/or wiggle it to get it to connect.

If it won’t work this way call Marcum I’m sure they can help.

When I saved my file to the desktop there is no “readme”….. it’s bin file…
Try reloading the file from Marcum…

Mudshark, I have the lx7 main bin on my desktop. The problem is when I plug the lx7 into the computer it recognizes it and it says READ ME pops up. So when I dragg the lx7 in it doesn’t do anything.???

I run a mac so I had to use my sons lap top that I’m not overly familiar with. I was haveing same problem with read me file. After some searching I found the download file and what I needed was in there. Wish I could tell you how I found it but it was mostly dumb luck finding it for me. But I did finally get my unit updated.

    Michael –

i think i understand what you are doing here which is not correct (sorry) the new file (update) is called “LX-7MAIN” …..when you plug in your LX7 to your computer and open it you will see a “READ-ME” file…..dont drag and drop the new update file onto that. what you need to do is drag the new update file into the LX7s folder. dont drag the update file on top of the “READ-ME” file (youll see itll get highlighted if you do)

when you plug in your LX7 and your computer recognizes it open it up, right click and hold onto the update file (LX-7MAIN) drag the file into the LX-7s folder (right below the read-me file and it will copy over – remember dont copy on top of that read-me file)

hopefully this makes sense……if you have any questions let me know, i can walk you through it
