Does anyone with the new lx5i know if it has the same issue in shallow water as the lx6 and 7 has? I understand there is a new update coming to fix this issue.

I haven’t had an issue with my LX5i at all. The shallowest water I’ve used it in is 10 ft so far though.

The mechanical flashers work very well in shallow water. I’ve used them as shallow as 2 – 3 feet of fishable water and never had any issues.

I had my LX5i out for the first time this afternoon. I really like it and had no issues in shallow water. I moved out deeper because I wanted to try the zoom feature. This is my first unit with zoom. I hit the zoom button once to give me a 5 foot zoom window and then I hit the down button to get the two flashing lines and then I held the down button to move the zoom window. When my jig and sunnies appeared in the left hand side of the dial (the zoom) side, I stopped. Does that sound like I was doing it correctly? I need to keep playing with it.

That’s exactly how you’re supposed to do it! Hit the zoom button again and you’ll get a 10ft window to zoom, usually I like my jig to be in the middle of the zoomed portion but that’s all personal preference depending on where the fish are coming in!

I have the new LX-5i and it’s amazing. I used it in 5 feet of water last weekend and it was fantastic. I haven’t used the LX6 or 7 to know the exact issues you’re talking about, but I have no complaints whatsoever. I’d highly recommend the LX-5i. The zoom feature is unreal.

It’s not so much a shallow water problem; the digital marcums don’t read near the transducer very well. In higher range settings, the condition gets worse. For example, when in 60′, you can’t read within 12′ of the ducer.
