Well you may remember my earlier question about adding a LX5 to my arsenal for faster hole hopping. I already have the LX7. I did in fact find a great deal at Reeds and pulled the trigger on one. Now I’m reading more comments about LX5’s failing. Someone please make me feel better.

The only problem I had with mine was that if you pick it up and let the ducer hang from the holder it eventually damaged the cable and wouldn’t work to good. I consider that my own fault for not putting it in the tray. I havn’t heard any of my friends that have them have any problems either.

I’ve had one for years and never had any issues.

    Hope that helps.

Had one for 5 years, no problems at all. Will never buy a new one unless this one fails. They are $399.99 at Glens Army Navy.

Had mine for quite a few years and it has worked perfectly. Only problem I ever had was when the battery died while on the ice. New battery and worked perfectly again.

Mine had a bad motor out of the box. Marcum fixed it promptly and it has been bullet proof since. Can’t remember when I got it, but its been at least 6 years ago.

I have 2 VX-1 units and buddy has a LX-5, we have had them for years with no issues. The good thing is if there ever is a problem Marcum will take care of you. I had a Troller that I bought used and it had a problem with the sensitivity adjustment, they fixed it for no charge.

Ryan, I just don’t see the need to stress over the potential failure from ANY product that comes from a very reputable company. The vast majority are bullet proof, and the vast majority of guys that have them won’t post on forums enough to out weigh the few negative occurrences. In contrast, when one does fail, guys usually get ticked off because it happens peak season and want it fixed yesterday.

The key element to focus on is Customer Service. Every manufacture will experience a product failure, over-looked email, missed phone call…. But it is how the manufacture supports their product and what they do to rectify the situation. Marcum has a track record of making guys happy. For product out of warranty, you still hear feel good stories of fixed at a cheap price or at no-charge. As a consumer, you have to have realistic expectations. As a manufacture, they should try to exceed those expectations. I believe Marcum does. BTW – I have no horse in that race. I use Marcum, but no sponsorships, deep discounts, or other incentives.

Had mine for 3 years. I like the unit when it works. it broke this year and i had to take it to marcum. i posted a thread about it about a month or so ago. my experience had good parts and bad parts. As others have said i dont know that you should worry about it breaking, enjoy the unit and worry about it if the time comes. Marcum did fix my 3 year old unit for free if that eases your mind at all

I bought my first LX-5 the year they came out (10 years or so off the top of my head) and a second one for my dad 5 years ago. I sold my orginal LX-5 to a friend when the LX-7 came out 3 years ago. He also has an LX-3 since ever before I bought my 5 and we’ve never had an issue with any of them except breaking a couple transducer arms (our fault) which were replaced free of charge by Marcum waytogo

The only problem I have is that it helps me catch more fish, and that cuts into Miller time………
