I just ordered an LX5, it is not here yet. I thought it was Super Fine Line all the time. Seems it is not, you can use it or not use it. When do you use it and when do you not use the SFL. Thanks

More often than not, but especially when I am using the zoom.

I use mine when I’m on a big school of crappies or fishing in brush…Then you can see the individual fish and distinguish fish from the brush…Its a nice feature…

Thanks, that all makes sense. Why not use it all the time? When would you not use it? Thanks.

I don’t use it all the time cuz first its not as smooth for following a fast moving jig/spoon. Second its easier on the old eyes to see a bigger line. Third its mostly useful for the 20′ setting. As you go up in depth settings to 40′ or 80′ the lines will get smaller anyway.

I use it almost 100% of the time, I fish the shallow back waters of the Mississippi River and it just feels right !!!

The button to switch it on or off is a throwback to a previous era. Back when superfine line was first introduced, it was so different from competitor marks on the screen, Marcum felt that they needed to allow users to switch back to a mode that they were likely more familiar with, i.e., thicker marks. I see no reason not to run in SFL full time, as thinner marks means less clutter, more information, and ultimately better resolution.
