wondering about the location of the transducer was told split it in half at the bottom of the boat and also keep it just above the bottom of the boat wondering if anyone has one and where they mounted it and how it works at high speeds

They are called “skimmer” transducers. They should skim on the water surface while on plane. I have found that mounting them about 12″ to 18″ on either side of the keel works best. A little deeper is better in the water is better than not in the water enough. The angle adjustment should be made so as the transducer at a 90deg angle when the boat is in the water. Not all boats float at the same angle depending on the load you carry and how it is dispersed in the boat. If you don’t have a manual, you can download one on the lowrance website.
