I noticed on today’s show that James LX-7 was in zoom I believe and had the dial display. I have heard many say they use the chart with the zoom feature. I usually fish the same settings as what James was using but tried the chart display the other day for an afternoon of fishing. Certain spoons didn’t show as well on the chart but it was something different. What are folks reasons with their displays being set to they use? Most of the time I am focused on my zoom anyway with the dial being nice for those fish that move in above the zoom range.

I like to keep my zoom set to the 5 foot window when using smaller baits, if the fish have a knack for following lures above that zoom range I’ll use the dial setting. If I’m not getting high chasers, I’ll set it to graph mode for the “history lesson” it provides. It’s really just about what mode you like at that time. A pretty nice advantage of having options is being able to use the ones you want when you want them.

LX6 here. I keep mine on the graph, vertical water column, zoom.
I like the graph as Ben says for the history and I believe I can identify the bait fish better than in dial mode. In dial mode bait fish might just show up as a mark which could be miss read as interference. I mostly watch the zoom. I very rarely look at the vertical water column and if I could shut that off and have a bigger graph I would but I think the zoom is tied into it.
This is the 3rd season for my LX6 and I learn something new on it all the time.

I use the dial with vertical zoom. And I usually just stare at the dial.

Depends on the area I’m fishing and whether it’s shallow or deep. I will run the vertical and vertical zoom display in 10ft or less and use full flasher and vertical zoom in deeper water.

I have the LX-9 and the wife has a LX-6. I use and usually set on the wife’s the verticle zoom and verticle column with the graph. I like the chart for the history and to judge the size of the fish. I tried the dial and feel it is unecessary with the verticle columns. When a fish is present I focus on the zoom column which I prefer over the dial just like I would with my vex HD-22 bottom lock. I questioned why James still uses the dial, maybe like myself he doesn’t like his friends telling him that he has an expensive colored showdown. Maybe he can answer that quetion. All in all I prefer the digital setups 100 times over the flashers, even the FLX 28 yes I did it.

The round dial is about 3 times longer than the vertical column. Makes for more seperation.

There is a reason flashers are round.

I’m always surprised that people would opt to not use the flasher. When I look at the vertical displays all I see is lack of detail and target separation. Each to their own… the advantage of the digital units is you have options.

Well, there’s the answer and reason to use the dial. I never really thought of that way.
    Thanks
