Lx-6 or lx-7 vs flx-28

I’m investing in a new flasher sometime within the next month and am deciding between the 3. I have had an fl-8 for the past few years and I’m selling it now. I’m not too concerned with having a bigger screen that the lx-7 offers but if there are some extra features in the lx-7 that the 6 doesn’t have then I’d be more interested. I hear great things about the flx-28 as well but I’m beginning to feel that Marcum is just better. They have more features for the price you pay and I’m really interested in the LCD screen and being able to split the flasher dial into different parts. Just wondering what you guys have for thoughts on which you would prefer. I’m somewhat partial to Vexilar just from having one but I feel Marcum has such better target separation and that’s a key point to me.

after seeing and using both, you might as well get the 7. its not that much heavier than the 6.

as far as the 7 vs the flx28. i’d rather have the 7. i don’t like the proview ducer at all and i like the 7’s zoom better.

LX7 has better target separation than the lx6 because of the screen resolution, but not significant.
I’ve owned both Vex and MarCum. Vexilar is upgrading the units, maybe giving it a little more power but its still old technology. MarCum is digital, software upgradable, and is very user friendly. Personally I’d rather look at menu that allows me change my settings to my fishing style, the LX7 does just that. Marcum also lets you set where you want your zoom depth, Vexilar only gives you the bottom 6 feet, As far as the FLX28, it a good unit , but i don’t like how they use the little green tick marks for depth and the scrolling LED display. Go to the store and really play with both, hopefully someone there can explain both and not be bias.

the one big reason i went with the 7 over the 6 is the opportunity to upgrade it to the lx9 for $400 that and the bigger screen is what made it easier for me to go with a 7 and i would never go away from Marcum i am 100% believer in there product and i used but never owned a vex and just wasnt a fan of their product.

Dish out the extra $100 and buy the 7, the weight is hardly any more and the size is really nice! I work at mills and lots of people come in looking for a new vexilar and then they hear about the marcums and 95% of them leave with marcums after some talking to! Personally i love marcums and wouldn’t ever go back to a vexilar! Vexilars are over priced and you pay for a lot of the name, I’m marcum all the way and an lx-7 is going to give you everything you want plus more! Good luck with making your decision!

go with either the lx6 or lx7. Many more features than the vexilar.

I went with the LX6 toward the end of last season, at the time, I found the LX6 for $200 less than the LX7

After having the 9 and 7 I love the 6 much smaller easier to haul and lighter great flasher! At first I was all like gotta have the biggest screen and resolution…then hauling was a pain with all the other crap I got the 6 fits in perfect

I was thinking about the 7 but the Rep. told me the battery last longer in the 6, so that’s what I bought. Very happy with the decision.

When I saw the beating a dead horse thing for the first time a couple of years ago it cracked me up enough that I saved it just in case a situation seemed valid. I went to a LX7 2 years ago after running a fl8 and a fl20. I couldn’t be happier with the lx7. I don’t think you will be disappointed with either brand. They both make a good product. It will sound stupid but the first thing I noticed when I made the switch is that because the marcum is digital it is also silent. I do like all the optional screens too rather just than the flasher type display.

I like both the marcum digital and flx28. The marcum tends to shine most of the time. There are only a couple things I don’t like about my Lx7. It’s so far required three trips back to Versa to be fixed. And, in a handful of setup situations, it doesn’t mark targets nearly as well in the uppermost part of the water column compared to vexilars. This blindness is most evident when fishing in over 40+’ of water and you have fish cruising immediately under the ice. I fish suspended basin crappie at night a lot and have resigned myself to advocating the use of vexilars products specifically for that type of fishing.

The 7 is great cause if u run multi view screens the 6 screen might be small.

I’ve owned a FL18 LX5 and LX7. I am not going to knock Vexilar they make a bullet proof product but IMO are behind the times. 6or7 will have to be your choice I like the bigger screen. I really like using the scrolling graph screen, you can see when something comes in on the bottom with no doubt something has. Vexilar does not have that feature . Multi viewing screens. Vexilar does not have this. Ability to upgrade unit for free, Vex…. You know. Using the 6 color pallet in the graph mode you can pick up the dorsal fins on a fish that has snuck in on the bottom, this will show up as a blue line. Your call but I switched to MarCum and will not look back.

I owned the LX-7 last year and didn’t really like it. I sold it this summer and am going to buy the FLX 28 after using a buddies. The reason I didn’t care for it was because it was bulky, hard to see hole hopping in the sun (in certain angles) and small slim spoons barely showed up on the screen. I also fish some very shallow lakes and when I was raising my lure I would lose it once I was 5 foot below the ice, which in many cases they were hitting 3 feet below. I took it in to MarCum and asked the guy, and he said that all my settings were right, and that the target adjust was kind of a fluke feature, meaning that it didn’t really increase the lure size. Not to completely knock the 7 because as mentioned the ability to use it in open water, switch from 20 to 8 degree cone, add a camera, and upgrade it are all awesome things, which is why I purchased one, but I still wasn’t impressed with the fishability of it. I literally stopped using it and ended up stealing my old man’s fl8 for the rest of the winter. I know there’s a lot of MarCum fans but those Vexilars are dependable and durable units and you can’t really go wrong with either based on preferences. Good luck this winter!

I too own both and like both. I too have trouble sometimes in bright sun seeing the screen on my 7 with my photo-gray glasses. The brightness of the lights on the flx28 can be set to be really bright(works with my glasses) or turned down for night time or in the shack. Like has been said- can’t go too wrong either way. The trouble with both units is that they can’t make the fish bite!!!

I never realized how much noise the Vex generates until last year. I upgraded to the LX-9, and for me personally, the extra weight is fine. But after enjoying the peace and quiet, I hear the vex running from someone elses hole and I can’t believe how many hours a year i sat and listened to that.

I grew through the progression of the Lowrance green box, Super 60, Sitex, Hondex, then marcum. For the way I fish, and teach others, the digital has been leaps and bounds forward in displaying information. On good agressive days, the flasher is fine and thats about all you need to see. But on days when the slightest finesse movements make the difference, having the movement history on the horizontal display in almost priceless.
