I am looking to get a boat and thinking about a 17′ tiller. Pros and Cons?

    First of all……Welcome to In-Depth

Lots of questions……how big of water are you fishing? Lake? River? Do you have kids? What will you be fishing for mostly?

Anyway, a 17ft. tiller, depending on engine size, is usually a good , versatile boat

    A 125 hp on a 17′ tiller?

Be sure your insurance is paid up and hang on tight.

In my experience, three people, gear, elbow room, etc is getting tight. Four people is tight regardless of boat size until you get into the 20′ range. So, with that being said, I’d go with the 19’er.

My dad is ordering a 1825 Lund Pro Guide. I looked at it with him. It seemed to be a decent boat regarding storage. http://www.lundboats.com/Showroom/2010/Sportsman/2010_1825_pro_guide.html

I have the Alumacraft Navigator 175 tiller which is 17’9″ with a 95″ beam and has a great wide open floor plan and easily fishes 3 people.

    good luck shopping

17 ft lund pro angler. 75 hp max rating. Has the center rod storage which I would never go without. 96″ beam plenty of room for 3 even hucking for muskies. Fish 4 on the river vertical jigging.

I don’t know what year or price range you’re looking at but I had an 18′ Lund. I fished three very comfortably and it had a ton of power with the 90hp on it.

I run a fiberglass Rangers now, but if I didn’t fish such big water I’d think about an aluminum again. They are much cheaper and they are light. Other than riding rough in big water I had no complaints with this boat.

I have a 1800 pro v with a 90 hp tiller fishes 3 fine tons of room. tillers have more room than consoles. my dad has a 2010 pro guide with a 175 tiller steers easier than my 90. he has the power steering. I would upgrade only if you run long distances. extra cost is 2500-3000. Check out the pro guides from lund great boats for the money lots of room. Cost much less then the pro v.

Had an ’04 Lund Explorer 17′ tiller. Only thing I didn’t like was the lack of rod storage.
