So ive finally found the boat i want to own which took forever to decide but i came up with the big tiller from lund. Ive only sat in one and would love to hear what you owners or people who have rode in one thought of it?? My other question is i was at the marina yesturday and getting some numbers put together on how much my dream rig was gonna cost me. I rigged it up with a 101 vantage on back but cant decide if i want that or a gas kicker. Money isnt the issue its that im not sure how much trolling ill end up doing with it. Ive got the 200 v-rod it the big tiller handle so i know i can troll down slow with that but just wanted your guys and gals opionions

Awesome boat. My Dad bought a used one (also the tiller) a few years ago (a 2007 I think). He fishes mainly in N.D. on Sakakawea. He has a 2 stroke Merc on it (175 I think). And as I recall, a powerdrive v2 on the front, though I think he’s upgrading this year. No kicker etc., but I think you’d be wise to consider it unless your big motor can idle down well/run well at low speeds. The boat is a dream to fish out of. It’s just huge. I love it. Handles big water fine, though you’ll get wet at time if you really throttle it up. It does get blown around a bit in wind which is why I think a good kicker etc. would be a nice addition for him. Congrats on the purchase. You’ll love fishing out of that rig.

I have the 1825 with a Yamy 90hp, 80# Vatage & Terrova. I have no use for a kicker. When I troll I use the Terrova or my 90 which troll down to 1.75 mph going forward on calm water. I think the ProGuids are a great platform to fish from and I think they fish very well in wind on Leech, Winni, Red, Devils…..

I had Tony Roach take me and my wife out fishing on our honeymoon and it was a very very nice ride!! If I could afford something of this caliber I would not hesitate to get it. We were in some pretty good rollers on Mille Lacs and that boat kept us dry and comfortable. Only complaint from the wife was that it did not have a windshield while we were moving. Best boat I have ever fished out of for sure!

I believe Tony Roach runs a Pro V tiller which is a little different. I would pass on the kicker unless trolling is what you do most of the time. You can dial down the verado, adjust props, or run the vantage to slow down. With a 101 bow mount you can troll for awhile as well.

If money isn’t an issue I would look at the 208 GL tiller. That is a sweet ride. Otherwise I would agree, no need for a kicker with the digital throttle adjust on the v rod.

    I run a 11′ 2010 Pro Guide with a 175 Verado and the 101 Vantage.

Main motor will troll down to 2.3-2.4 with the digital throttle and by dropping the Vantage in reverse, I can troll as slow as 1.0 if I wanted to.

The only real advantage I see for going with a kicker is to keep the hours down on your main motor.

I have an ’07 2010 Pro Guide that I use almost exclusively on Mille Lacs and could not be more happy with it. The hull handles anything that Mille Lacs can dish out and more. Speeds are 51-52 every day on a 1 foot chop. I won’t say it’s a dry boat, especially when quartering waves, but I’ve learned how to drive it better every year and can generally give my passengers a smooth dry ride out and back.

I have a 175 Opti and a Mill Kota Vector on the back, a Terrova on the front, and have not found a situation on the lake where I can’t do exactly what I want to do. The Terrova handles trolling up to 2.5 MPH up to a moderate chop, and when that isn’t enough the Opti takes over. If I want to get down to 2.0 with the 175 I drop a small 20 inch trolling bag off the front to slow down a bit more. There have been times where I thought a kicker would be nice, but honestly I haven’t ever been able to justify the extra weight and maintenance of it.

I have a Minn Kota alternator charger rigged which tops off my trolling batteries when I am running the main motor and have never arrived back at the dock with less than a 50% charge on the trolling batts due to the extra charging boost they receive when I am running around between trolling passes.

In heavy waves, being able to park on a spot and lindy rig with the 175 is huge. I have literally seen everyone else blown off spots, taking waves over the back, while I sit there comfortable pinned exactly where I want to be. The splashwell will occasionally take a big wave and fill up, but water drains out quickly and never reaches the bilge.

Every year I go to the Boat Show and look at the new offerings, and I have yet to see a boat that can do anything my current one won’t, so I plan to just keep running it. I did upgrade from Lowrance LCX units to Birds last year, and that was a great move as well.

There are a few other very good tiller boats out there for sure, but you will be very happy with the 2010 Pro Guide. Don’t skimp on your batteries, electronics, or trolling motors and you will have a great rig that will serve you well for many years.

Dads is a 175 pro xs. With 80 vantage no need for the 101. But it will work too. It is a light boat. If you troll a lot and use big motor buy two small socks and tie to each side in front will get you down to speed. Not much room for another kicker handles everywhere. Not much room to reach it have to sit in back deck.

You won’t be disappointed with this boat. I’ve got a 2011 with a 175 Vrod and a 80 Vantage…no Terrova as I spend the majority of my time on the water going backwards!

They made a huge improvement, IMO, in late 2009 or ’10 when they adjusted the reverse chine which helped with bow lift. I had a 2007 before my current 2011 and the 2011 is a much better riding boat.

    Enjoy your new rig!
