Two Questions On A Lund 1700-Prop and Side Curtain

So I have an 02′ with a 115 Yamie on there, and I’m getting 4800rpm full out. I don’t remember what size the prop is (I’ll check tomorrow) currently, but obviously it’s not the correct pitch. So I’m asking anyone wiht a F115 Yamaha, or a Lund 1700 or equivalent boat, preferably with both, what do you run?? Otherwise just based on general info, what do you guys recommend? I’m not looking to break the bank, in fact cheaper is better, as long as it’s not a POS.

Second question, I have a bimini top that attaches to the windshield on the front, and has zippers for side curtains. How expensive, and where should I get them? I know the bimini top is third-party, but I feel like they’ve closed since the top was made (I’m not sure on this so I’ll check). I would imagine any fabrication company with access to my boat/top would be able to make the curtains however? I’m looking for vinyl/see-thru, but if you’ve just got regular cloth I’d still love to know what you paid for it. Thanks guys!!

My stock prop on my 115 Yamaha is a 13 X 19K Yamaha aluminum prop.
It puts my 2002 Lund Mr Pike 17 in the 5700 rpm range- It has a bent tip on a blade and is slipping quite a bit now- closer to 5900.

    Good Luck

Your rpms are way to low. If your motor seems to be lugging then I would change to a lower pitch prop. Rule of thumb is every 1 degree of pitch change equals 200 rpm. So if you are running a 21 degree pitch prop and getting 4800 rpms, you will need to downsize to a 17 degree pitch prop to get 5600 rpms. That motor should be running in the 5800 rpm range. If I remember right the rev limiter is set around 6250 rpms. If the motor seems to be running fine and is running high rpms, your tach could be set wrong. I used to try to get the motor to run as close to 6000 rpms as possible.

I have a 115 on my 17′ Lund Fisherman, and run in the 5,700 -5,800 RPM range, when trimmed up with a 13.5 x 15 aluminum prop. I was told, prop style can make a pretty big difference, such as a big dog eared prop vs a slightly slimmer style.

That low of RPM, you are either way off on the prop, assuming you are trimming up, right?

As suggested, is the gauge reading right? I just started having an issue with mine, and need to see where and how it picks up the rpm info to look for bad connections or something.

On the top, sure it is aftermarket? Lund offered a top like that, with side and a back curtain available to what I think was considered a sport package top like you have. That is what I have on mine. If the poles and such all wrap together and tuck into the back and sides of the boat, decent chance that is a Lund top. You can still get the sides and back from Lund… but they are quite expensive. Can’t remember how much, but even the parts guys looking them up for me were shocked to see the pricing. I personally would love to find someone that bought them with the boat, and like most, never use them…. and try and buy them. My thought is for overnighters where I don’t want to tent it in remote areas…. just live off the boat for a couple days.

Thanks for the info guys! Well it certainly could be the gauges, since the only two that work are my tach and fuel, it wouldn’t surprise me if the tach decided to take a dive lol. Although if I remember right we’ve always had problems getting the right RPMs, but I can’t recall what the old numbers/props were. She runs smooth and fine, the noise being produced makes me think she’s running alright on the engine end.

As far as the top goes, it’s aftermarket, it’s got the logo of the manufacturer on it (of course I forgot the name lol). Doesn’t surprise me that their prices are way jacked up though, you pay for the “name” in name-brand in pretty much everything these days lol.
