I bought an 07 Crestliner Fishhawk 1600 brand new. Since day 1, I have had a terrible time getting the livewell plug in and even more trouble out! Up til now, I have just dealt w/ it. Last weekend I was out and couldn’t pull the plug out. Figured it’s time to change something. It’s made of plastic and has 2 rubber O-rings to seal. I took one of the rings off already, but it’s still quite difficult to get the plug out. Does anyone have any suggestions to make this work easier or a replacement option?

    Thanks.

I have had the same issue with this type of plug.

Tried some different types of grease but that was only a short term fix.

Now we just use a rubber plug.

I also switched to a rubber plug on my Crestliner. One word of caution, make dang sure that the bottom piece on the plug that compresses and seals the hole does not just screw off the bottom. Some do and some don’t. I had one that came off and got lodged in the livewell drain hose!! Not a fun time getting that out!

My biggest complaint about this boat! Gotta pull like hell to get mine out and then when it does, the upper lid removes the skin from at least 3 fingers! I’m interested in solutions as well…

Agreed…definitely my only real complaint w/ the boat. Not sure it makes me happy to hear others have the same issue (and are losing skin too!), but glad I’m not the only one! As far as a rubber Plug, you are talking about the standard “t” or “lever” type right? (either one you tighten to compress the rubber length wise and it expands the width) I was thinking about giving that a try. THANKS for the advice! My hands will be greatful.

Mine was the same way,,,,,,,,,, till I fixed it! The live well itself is the problem, nothing wrong with the plug. The o-rings are sized properly but the opening is not.

The livewell liner has a mold seam right in the opening for the plug. In my case this seam had not been completely trimmed away. I imagine everyone that is too tight, has the same issue.

If you feel with your finger and go around the inside of the opening and you feel a very small slight “ridge”,,,, that ridge is NOT supposed to be there. A very sharp narrow bladed knife will allow you to carefully trim away the offending material. The result should be a smooth inner wall of the opening.

Once the opening is smooth and ridge free, the plug will be a much better fit.

If you are uncomfortable using a knife, some fine 250 (or finer) wet/dry sandpaper wrapped around a large dowel should do the trick also.

Huntindave – you are an amazing person! I just went out and tried your suggestion. (all the while thinking…I hope this works, but if this works, why has it taken me YEARS to finally find a solution…and it’s SO SIMPLE!) I had the plug in, so scraped up 2 knuckles after it let loose. Took my knife and scraped a couple of swipes. Tried the plug and already better. Couple of more times of trial and error and wa-la…FIXED. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your advice. thank you.

I’m having an issue with my live well plumbing. I have the same boat and I can’t figure out for the life of me what hose goes where. Could you send me a picture of you live well pump and where the hoses go?
