I just traded in my 94 Lund Angler Deluxe on a 2004 Pro V with a 115 Yamaha(very excited!) My old boat had a fifty horse so trolling was not a problem, is it reasonable to troll crankbaits with a 115 or is a kicker recomended. Thanks in advance, new to the site and it seems great!

If it as a 4-stroke you should be fine unless you want to troll under 2 mpg,you can use a drift sock to get you below that.

We troll with the 115 four stroke all the time….. just trim it up to lower ur speed no need for a kicker motor

How much trolling do you plan on doing? If it’s one or two trips per year, get some trolling bags. If you plan on putting 100+ hours on a year trolling, then I would for sure get a kicker. I run a 70 4 stroke that’ll get down to 2mph in calm water, but I run a kicker also just because I hate having to mess with the trottle, and turn via console.

Now I have an older 4 stroke kicker, and steer with my Ipilot. This allows me to slow the kicker down and add a little thrust with the ipilot, make precision turns, record my pass, and increase or decrease speed by 10ths of a mile an hour.

I use Cabelas drift socks,I would get a medium size they have them on sale sometimes for 19.99,XL if you want use it on the side of your boat to slow drift, I use them alot on bigger lakes when dragging lindy rigs.Enjoy that boat you made a nice step up.

Thanks, sounds like you have a very thoughtful system with the I pilot. I am gonna get a drift sock. Thanks for your time!

Get a kicker. You just don’t have the finite speed control available to you when trolling with a main motor.
