Lund Fury Build Quality

As some of you guys know I had a bit of buyers remorse from my Alumacraft as it just was not quite in the condition that I wanted. Ultimately if I bought something new and scratched it up I’d be mad anyway so I’m OK with the scratches now, but I thought I would compare mine to the Lund Fury and Fury XL.

Now don’t get me wrong, I only looed at the Fury so far but color me shocked at how poorly it’s constructed. Unless this is expected at $11k?

Essentially the seams are what surprised me the most. Seams everywhere, and large at that, Aluminum shavings everywhere. Not confidence building for me. Unless the Fury XL is light years better I’m passing on this and will stick with my Fisherman

Okay, there is definitely something wrong with these pictures. Just where did you see this boat? No way this should ever have left the factory like that and can’t imagine a dealer accepting one in that condition. Looks like one built for “what you should not do” when building a boat for delivery.
This would not be typical of most any boat they build for retail sale.

Ah, this is what you were mentioning at the shop.

A guy would like to think even the more value boats are constructed with quality and pride, just less bells and whistles.

Wonder what kind of AIS could be hiding in there devil

This was at Rapid up in Rogers. I wanted to see if a Fury XL was as good as it looked (National Sale right now puts a 1625 Fury XL Console with a 40hp Merc at like $13.5?) and they only had the base Fury on the floor.

To be fair, higher end models (Rebel XS for $20k) looked very nice but I was shocked.

And for the hell of it (different boats and construction, I get it) this was what I saw on an Alumacraft V16/V14s at Cabelas. Sub $4 and $3k boats.

Not looking for a brand war, just was very surprised. Maybe an anomaly, hopefully. But I too don’t get why you even have it on the floor. Its their showroom

Frankly I’m flabbergasted that Rapid or any dealer would have that on display for public observation! As if the seams weren’t questionable, the shavings debris is even more out of line.

It shouldn’t matter the brand of the boat or the dealership, it’s poor craftsmensip and should have never gotten out on the market. Kinda hard to believe the it got past the supposed called QA inspectors. I’m glad you made this post as it informs us all when looking at a boat, new or used

Doug I am not defending Lund but the image that you defined as a SEAM does not impact the hull’s integrity. It is an applied chime that provides cornering stability. It would be nice if it had a little better fit and finish but it is like molding applied to the side of a vehicle. The curve of the hull and the curve of the applied chime are not as good as they could be. But my ’81 Pike looks about the same. As for the chips, shame on the dealer for his show room prep. If you have seen boats being delivered to a dealership they come shrink wrapped and stacked on end with their bows pointed to the sky. Any loose chips or carpet fiber will be in the back of the boat. It is the dealers responsibility to give it the final spiff before putting it out. Agreed boat are expensive and one would like to think that with the cost of a new Fury that you were getting a hand crafted boat, they all go down the same line. Here is a great video.

As far as the aluminum chips, rigging a boat with “stuff” produces chips. Who can say whether they were factory or after. On the other hand, I hear people say… “who the hell pays $60k for a boat ?” the answer is, someone who would pick a $30k boat apart that is full of “flaws”. Step right up !!!

The metal shavings are not a big deal, or I should at least say, are not uncommon to find in new boats. The warped side paneling….that’s a different story.
