Lund aluminum boat repair

Hello, I’ve just bought a Lund Predator 1760 sc. First time out I landed on shore and was bobbing on a rock. Put a few scratches and scrapes on the bottom. I know its minor. But it got me thinking. How much would it cost to repair a threw tear? It’s all welded and has a welded on deck. It may also have spray in foam. I’m guessing the deck would have to be removed and foam also removed before welding? Has anyone had work done like what I described?

If you spent any time in the airplane maintenance industry or with the air branches of our armed services; they would recommend that you not weld on your aluminum boat.

It reduces the strength of the aluminum and tends to change the temper making it softer.

Their recommendation would be a sealed blind riveted patch. They would shape the patch before installation if required.

    Something to think about.

There are some great Aerospace-grade structural adhesives out there that could probably be used to adhere a good patch too, but surface prep (of the patch and the hull) would be absolutely critical. They are not your average store bought adhesives, they are orders of magnitude stronger but only when using proper surface prep of the aluminum. I’ve considered this myself in case of emergency.
