Lund 1875 Impact XS – Motor Questions

Will soon be placing an order for a 2022 Lund 1875 Impact XS. Going with a Merc 150 but not sure to go with Pro XS or XL. I was told the new Merc 150 motors are not noticeably different other than top-end speed. Another dealer told me that the new 150 Pro XS has better top end speed, helps with getting out of the hole quicker and has overall better performance than the XL. Is the Pro XS worth the extra money? I use the boat primarily on the cast. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario bays. Also, would you recommend upgrading to a stainless steel prop? If so, what pitch/kind? Thanks.

$$$ vs MPH. Realistically how much faster can one motor go vs the other? It’s about the dollars, I don’t know how much better the performance can be.

Basically the same motor. I had the XL on my last Impact. I was told the XS might be a little higher top end and more grunt out of the hole. Unless you’re a numbers guy, 49 vs 47mph isn’t a deal breaker.

My XS is propped with a stainless Merc Tempest 19p. Hasn’t seen the water yet. doah

I’ve heard of a lot of Pro XS issues as of late. Most are only after 1-2 seasons of use as well.

XL might be a little more fuel efficient, but don’t quote me on that

I did not get the pro XS for my 115. ASked guys on here and other online spots. I am mostly the cast guy on 70% of metro area lakes and maybe 30% on Rainy ( the ONLY other place i fish)
3-5 MPH is what I was being told was the difference. Not worth the extra money. I spent it elsewhere.
Hole shot is GREAT on my 1775 2019 Impact so…..

In 2018 the cost difference between the 115 and 155 Pro XS was $400 for me (on a 30k budget). Absolutely worth the cost difference IMO. Not sure how it stacks up today.

The ProXS model will yield an extra couple hundred RPM’s which means an extra prop option or two, and better top end if you are propped correctly. I’m always of the opinion if you’re shelling out that much on a new boat what’s an extra couple of hundred to get max performance? Just my opinion, no judgement either way.

Sorry, 115 and 115 pro xs. That 155 was a typo

IMO you should consider the value to someone else between the standard 115 and Pro XS if you sell the boat down the road.

I’d opt for the Pro XS if it were my boat. I think most people in the market opt-for or desire the Pro XS.

    Valid points all.
It was nearer the $1100 mark for me – not sure why KPE was only $400.
Was a factor to me in terms of the total cost package.
It’s my boat. Time I sell it ( or probably give it to my boys) it won’t matter – did not buy for resale value down the road ( that’s what my mortgage payments are for ) )
Either way you will not be sorry – the vast majority of fishing I don’t need the extra few miles per hour so was not a consideration so a “Pro XS badge” was not important to me.

I have the same boat with a standard Merc 150. While I would have preferred the Pro XS just to impress the ladies cool , I don’t see a reason to spend the extra $$ to try and maybe make a tin fishing boat go 1 MPH faster. In fact I made mine slower by choosing a 15 pitch Rev 4 prop. I wanted the boat to pop out of the hole fast, have a slower planing speed, and have better control in bad conditions.

I wish they would have rated the boat for the correct size outboard which is 200 hp. Now that would add significant speed.

    Umy,

No idea why the difference. Could have been Rapid Marine trying to offload inventory (remember a few years ago when there was inventory to offload LOL)! Either way I was happy. At an $1100 difference it certainly would have been a tougher decision and I probably would have opted for the standard 115.

I think either option is fine if the price difference is considerable. Agree with you holeshot is great with a 115 on a 1775 impact, and the ProXS won’t get you any better than it already is for holeshot; it should only serve to add top end and 1-2 additional propping options.

I also bought mine in the summer of 2018, right before aluminum tariffs went through the roof. My boat already had significant positive equity a few months after I bought it. Nearly traded it in right away for an 1875, but we genuinely find the 1775 to be the perfect size for our use case.

Yeah. I drove by Shakopee Rapid MArine on the way home from Lake Frances in Elysian. Just about empty outside – looks out of business.
My use is pretty standard in the metro. IF the big motor comes on it’s only for a couple minutes then the trolling motor comes on for the next 3 hours. Headed back to Canada on Friday and then it will get some use but hard to beat the 4 stroke over my 30 year old 2 stroke – just LOVE IT!!
I usually go for a spin on the lake before heading in just to make sure the big motor gets some kind of workout.

Ok – thanks all for your input. Last question – for MK trolling motor, I was thinking of going with the Ultrex 112 lbs thrust I-Pilot. I do plan to do a couple of Bass tournaments each year and will be heavy on the trolling motor. Any issues you see with an Ultrex of that size on a Lund 1875 Impact XS? They just seem like a real stable trolling motor, especially when bass fishing.

    I have a Terrova 80lbs, 60″ on my Impact 1775
    24 volt system
I can run the trolling motor ( either foot pedal or remote) using Spot Lock or Autopilot for 7 hours on local lakes.
Up in Canada on Rainy it last for 5-6 hours but far more wind and waves so…..
From what I have been reading on this post and others there were MORE issues with the Ulterra than the Terrova.
    I LOVE mine

Ultrex is a cable steer tm, so it’s going to be a totally dfferent beast than Terrova and Ulterra. I’ve heard good things about them. If you spend a lot of time in the bow I don’t see why not.

I also love my Terrova, sounds like Umy and I have exactly the same boat setup and everything he’s said is spot on. I think the 112 will get you even more run time due to not working as hard in big water.
