I’m looking a good LP Torpedo heater for a temp. misc. heat source for garage, wrenching on stuff, thawing etc.

Probably 50K to 60K BTU’s. I want something that will last and be reliable.

I see Dewalt has a decent looking one, anybody have intel on that one?

    TIA

I bought a cheap one from TSC for my garage remodel until I get the furnace up and running. I would guess they all come from the same factory with different stickers. This is the 2nd one I have had and the main thing is to have a big enough tank, the first one I had was 125k and couldn’t run off a 20lb, it would run out of gas, hooked to a 100lb. it was fine

I have a Mr heater 75,000-125,000. Hasn’t had any problems with it in the five years that I’ve had it. Like onestout said they run better on bigger tanks. I would have to switch tanks when they would freeze up when I was running on 30lbs tanks. This year I got a 100lbs. tank no problems now.

I’ve got a “LB White” maybe, had it for years now. It doesn’t hardly get any use. I think it is a 125000/175000 btu, (unsure of the low/high min, max) propane with a high low valve. Mine will run a 20# tank on low bunner but if I need to run it on high, a paired 100# work best. It is a construction site heater. Set it up on a Dayton thermostat and you are good to go from 38 degrees to H e double ell!

    It has been the bomb!

Thanks guys, I think I will go with the Mr. Heater 75 to 125. Get a 40# tank and an electric wrap for the tank.

Not to be a nanny, but since you mentioned in a garage, please add a digital CO detector to your purchase,,,,

I bought the same one a couple years ago for temp heat while building my house works very well and they have “quite” burn technology and are quite a bit quieter then old style.

Thanks for the reminder HRG, but I won’t be running it for constant heat.

For example, The SxS went thru quite a bit of slush this past weekend and the undercarriage is packed with slush that will freeze the next few days. When I get back up there, it will need to be thawed.

Yup. Just to reiterate they chew up the air. I used mine to heat a small area a long time ago and I would get light headed real fast.

And I thought that was just the way you are normally…..lol.

They don’t just freeze up they run out of gas with smaller tanks, not enough free area in the small tanks to supply the gas needed. 30lb. Should work, but if it shuts down that would be the first thing I would suspect.

think i got one of those 30000-40000 btu jobs not sure the brand name but i have no problem warming up my uninsulated garage to do things on a 20lb tank. i dont do it when its 20 below however. it’s not down to T-shirt level warm but comfortable.
