I went with the standard HDS5 GPS/Sonar combo, and run a lakemaster chip.

This is the one I purchased as well. Love the unit. I like the internal antenna but hear good things about the external as well. That’s more personal preference though. I went with internal cause I like to use it for ice fishing.

There is a debate in another forum regarding the Lake Insight option on these units. If you have a favorite chart sd card already, go without the Lake Insight which is a preloaded Navionics chart. If you prefer to buy the Lakemaster chip and use it then there is no reason to purchase an HDS with Lake Insight. I bought one with Lake Insight and like it better than Lakemaster because it gives me “Insight” into unfamiliar lakes that I may fish in the future, similar to, if not exactly like, the original Fishing Hot Spots maps did. I put a Navionics Insight map chip in my bow locator and can have the same data displayed on both units. That works great for me but may not be best for you.
Good hunting for what is best for you.

Jolly Ann Marine – he typically is priced lower then anyone else, and is tax free if you live in MN!

other place i would price check with first is Reeds.

BTW – when i bought my HDS from wade last year, i had it in like 2 days after ordering it. very fast turn around time, and cheaper prices….and did i mention no tax…

Love my HDS 5, only had it a week and it is great. I got the base model because I have the lake master chip. Wade at Jolly Ann is the way to go!

Check out Thorne Bros to get your unit. Hands down the best shop around.

I have to agree, they had the best prices at the MN muskie show. I have a new HDS 7 I brought home yesterday…
