Down scan vs side imaging?

I knew what ping rate was, just wasn’t sure how it related to transducers going out, makes sense I guess, but if even that was true, I’m betting they shouldn’t go out that fast, and many I know run years on theirs with no problem.

Even Doc Samson on his DVDs recommends the fastest ping rate…if I remember right.

They admitted they had a problem, which was nice of them, but they said basically “too bad, buy new improved ones” which wasn’t nice.

I work in a field where customer service is very important and I/the company does what we can for our customers, we see a lot of repeat customers because of that.

You’d think it would be a no brainer…maybe not.

fwiw I spent some time at the lowrance booth at the sports show last night, looks like the HDS7 would be a direct replacement for my 27C’s, with the option of adding down scaning and not side scanning.
Which is what I was looking for.

Much cheaper also btw.

It was my understanding the HDS7 (at least one option) came with neither and you could add just down scanning, which is what I wanted.

There does seem to be several difference ways to get the HDS7 though.

I have a HDS7 and added a LSS1 and have both side scan and down scan! Stan

the LSS is an add on side/down scan for all the HDS units, the difference is the 5 and 7 only allow a 2 screen split while the 8-10 allow for a 4 screen slpit. with the 5-7 you can have gps/left scan for example on the screen at one time, or any 2 options you want, with the 8-10 you can have left,right,gps and graph, or any combination of 4 screens. Then you can add the sonic hub also and get Sirrus Sattelite, add a radar reciever for on screen radar and maybe a few things I’m forgetting.

Lowrance does ofer a down scan unit in the Elite 5 DSI but it does not give to the ability to use normal sonar.

So the guy at the lowrance booth was wrong, there is no option for a down scan only HDS7 then?

Edit…little checking and yes, you get side and down in a package, seems the lowrance rep was wrong, I asked him twice for a down scan unit only and he pointed me towards the HDS7..

Wonder what HB has to offer.

Downscan only is the Elite 5 DSI from Lowrance, can be had with a GPS also…

HB has DI and regular sonar units without SI. They have them in the 596c HD DI, 597ci HD DI Combo, and the 788ci HD DI Combo
