When fishing for suspended fish, looking for fish up off the bottom, or being able to see your lure on the screen when trying to catch those suspended fish, the 83/200 khz Broadband sonar is the best choice.
But if you add structure fishing and need to see the bottom in great detail the best total choice is to get an HDS unit and add Structure Scan. If budget is a concern you will give up some features but still be able to view structure in detail with an Elite DSI. Although you won’t be able to see to the left and right that the full Structure Scan offers. The HDS with Structure Scan may be a little more than you originally wanted to spend but will be worth it in the long run. You can break the cost up a little by purchasing the HDS unit first and then a little later when you save up some money get the LSS-1. If you get the HDS 5 and add a Structure Scan and decide later that you want a larger screen you can upgrade your HDS unit and just plug the LSS-1 you already have into the new unit.
