looking for a color gps/sonar that will run the larger Lakemaster chip. am i out of luck or do I need to buy a micro card. looking to spend 5 to 6 hundred on unit only. if i have to buy the smaller card i will. trying to decide between lowrance and hb.
HDS units run the bigger chip. I think you could get an HDS-5 somewhere close to your budget.
I currently have Lowrance LCX units an like them VERY much. They use a normal
SD card. If you think you might want side-imaging/structure-scan that won’t
work out. But if you don’t foresee a need for the side-imaging you can get a
really nice used LCX for a good price.

I run a HDS 5 and it runs the 2010 LM , chips for sale in the classifieds, it is a micro but comes with a adapter to run in all lowrance units.

All the HDS systems will take the larger map cards.

You don’t need expertise. They are pretty easy to install. Just follow the directions.
