HDS7 / HDS5 transducer selection

So I noticed what seemed like an oddity last time I was out and I’m curious if anyone knows if its normal or have seen it before or what the deal is.

I have an HDS5 on the bow and an HDS7 on the console. They are connected via ethernet and nmea connections. The HDS5 is connected to the TM transducer and the HDS7 to the skimmer. When moving from spot to spot, I never turn off the bow unit, just pull up the trolling motor and go. I would have each unit set to use “this unit” for the transducer.

For some reason, the HDS5 would switch to use the HDS7 transducer on its own, usually when in route from one spot to another. I would switch it back when I got where I was going, but it would sometimes just switch back to the HDS7 on its own. Not a major issue, just more of an inconvenience.

    Any ideas?

I have experienced this before so I would say it’s normal.

It has something to do with shared data being “global” and not “local”.

See the bottom of page 81, top of pg. 82, of your manual.

    Scope
Controls the way data source settings are shared/not shared on an ethernet network.
Scope lets you select a mode that allows data source settings to be shared by HDS
units on an ethernet network (Global).
You can also select a mode that allows each HDS unit to have individual data source
    settings (Local).
    Scope Settings
    Global
Data source settings will apply to all
HDS units on an ethernet network.
    Local
Data source setting will apply only
to the unit with the local setting

I also beleive this is common.
If you don’t want sonar switching from your HDS7 to bow mount HDS5, just disconnect the ethernet cable. Sonar is shared via ethernet. Way points, external GPS, ect. ect are shared via NEMA 2000 network. To get your sonar back from rear transducer, just reconnect ethernet.
I beleive this would solve your inconvience.
    Good luck

I had an issue kind of like that. Only all my settings were on local and couldn’t figure out why they would switch transducers.

After several times of swearing and cussing at them, I found an option of network sonars. I think it was under one of the sonar menus. It was the very first option in that particular menu. I deselected that option on both units and now they don’t switch any more.

Don’t know if that will help you any for your situation.
