I was in a very popular sporting goods store in the st. paul area today. I asked the guys why there wern’t any lowrance combos on display. They said they were sold out and they were pushing the customers towards hummingbird units.Being a lowrance owner i guess i knew the answer before i asked the question why. The guys were tired of getting calls fron angry customers. Too bad for lowrance but after all the problems i’ve had with mine i can understant it.

I have ran Lowrance all my life and I have never had any problems with my units. I am running two HDS units now and absoulutely love them. With that being said Humminbird as came a long way and they make some excellent units now as well.

I too am amazed at resonses like yours of Lowrance service problems… There have been several opinion polls the past 7-8 years here regarding Sonar brands and Lowrance wins by a landslide.
I have had Hummingbird, Garmin, Eagle and Lowrance over a 20 years period and never had a problem with any of their services.
Who are you buying these units from? That makes a HUGE difference…I just ordered a new Lowrance Elite 5M Chartplotter from JollyAnn Marine (site sponsor). The unit came incorrectly programmed… After talking to the Lowrance Tech support (he said it would be replaced with a new unit in 4-6 weeks) I called Wade and he had a new unit heading my way 5 minutes later. Now thats service!

After my 20 minute wait on the line with Lowrance the other day, I relayed to the tech rep the sentiment of more and more owners about their support. She said that Lowrance was aware of the issues and was working to make things better. She said that many of the parts for the older units (three years old to me is not that old) are/were produced through subcontracting measures and that with the economy downturn that these parts/companies are not always available. I said that maybe rather than giving a guy a $150 credit toward a $1000 unit that he paid $800 for two years ago, that they may want to do more since it was not my fault?? She said they are striving to do better.
