Ethernet question

I’m going to be installing my new HDS units this weekend, and adding the structure scan as soon as it shows up. I’m putting one unit on the bow and using the trasnducer in the trolling motor, and one at the console using a skimmer. I also plan to add another power connection back by the tiller so I can move the bow unit there when trolling. I only intended to put an ethernet cable and power cable in at the kicker location, which made brought to mind a question.

If I don’t have a transducer connected, and only have the unit connected to the LSS-1 via ethernet, will that unit be able to read information from the skimmer transducer connected to the console unit or will I only be able to use the structure scan transducer?

I’m not finding the owners manuals very helpful for these types of questions. It either isn’t there, or I just didn’t find it.

    Thanks.

I just installed the structure scan for my two HDS-7 units and I have the skimmer xducer, power and network cables all going to my console HDS. I have power and the LSS1 network cable going to my bow mount HDS. The skimmer xducer shows up on my bow mount unit. I think my console unit had to be set to “Network Sonar” in either the “Sonar” or “Installation” menu to allow that to work. I’m guessing that if the unit doesn’t detect a sonar being plugged into the unit directly it will attempt to locate one on the network. If it doesn’t, you may need to tell it the source for the sonar in one of the menu’s. I can’t be of help on that one yet because I don’t have the cable for the US2 on my trolling motor. I figured what’s the point since the downscan would be showing something 20 ft away from the front xducer.

    Anyway, hope that helps
