Can you mix HDS and LCX / LMS units?

I’m currently running an LCX-27c and an LMS-520c and have been tossing around the idea of switching out my console unit. I have my units networked together and have my e-tec tied into the network as well. I don’t really want to scrap everything I currently have. If I start upgrading, I need to do it in phases just due to the $$$$$.

So, can you mix this stuff together with an HDS unit somehow? I have looked around on the Lowrance website and can’t find anything on that. I’m sure I’m looking in the wrong spot, but I’m tired of hunting for it.

    Thanks.

Yes you can mix the two.

If you ethernet you will get the HDS sonar on your LCX
    units.

One thing to keep in mind is that an HDS unit won’t power
the network. You can keep your LCX power cable at the
console and use it with the HDS. You will need to disconnect
the network power from the LCX power cable and
power the network with a separate power cable.
(Hooks into a new T installed in the buss then connects
    to 12volts)

    Dan,

Do you know if the power changes you are talking about are detailed in the installation guide? I suck when it comes to anything power related. If it isn’t in writing with pictures, I struggle. I would hate to get a new unit and fry it from being stupid.

I recommend switching them all out and selling the old ones to me for cheap.

They are not. We can walk you through it though.

Disconnect the network power lead from your LCX unit.

    Add this part (119-75)

N2K-PWR-RD into the network and connect to 12 volts.

    Done!!

If I get a new one, you get first dibs on what I get rid of. Not sure on the cheap part. Depends on how many smart cracks you post between now and when I get the new one.

I just completed a similar upgrade on my boat, I replaced my lcx25c with an HDS8 and networked it with my 520. As stated above, you can’t power the network with the HDS, so I just powered it from my 520. No need to add another T with a separate power cable if you plan on keeping your 520.

Good point on using the other power cable Wadena. I used
a different power cable at my other locations so this
    wasn’t an option for me.

If you plan to eventually run all HDS you might as well
do the repowering once and be done with it.
