Christmas has left Egan and is “out for delivery”.

It was a very hard decision in many ways.

Sorry Humminbird. Just can’t join the family this time around.

So what model did you end up with?

I’m so giddy I forgot that huh?

    HSD-8 with Insight.

I need as much insight as I can get.

Once I see how big the FW’s check is I’ll be adding on the Sirus Weather antenna. Bad weather in the middle of no where has made some trips be cut short when they wouldn’t have had to….and it’s made for some fast night time runs that I have night mares about to this day.

Also…I have to publicly thank Mr. StrikeMaster Photo Contest Winner DanDorn for giving me the advantage of wiring the transducer, DSC and power cable prior to my unit arriving.

Dan let me “borrow” his. Now when the unit arrives I’ll be attaching the mounting bracket and it’s truly plug and play!

    Thanks Dan!

Congrats Brian. You’ll like it. I struggled with the same decision when I bought the Skeeter and went with Lowrance too. I wish I could afford to have both on my boat and have an entire summer to make a decision on which is my favorite. Dean does that “Try it before you buy it” don’t he??

Right now I’m thinking we could talk him into anything.

Enjoy your new Lowrance, BK! Lot’s of happy HDS users out there. There have been some ups and downs with Lowrance of late, as we all know, but the product is still incredible. Keep us up-to-date on your river adventures and the new unit.

    BK,

Yes, please keep us updated. I am still trying to make up my mind as far as which product to update to. Most of what hear about on this site is HumminBird. I don’t doubt that the HB products are good, I just want to hear both sides before I decide to continue with Lowrance or switch to HB.

So far so good. Because I’ve been a Lowrance user in the past, hooking up and powering on was a breeze.

Because of the way I fish, I don’t know if I’ll ever get the side/down imaging. I’m learning never to say never though.

Tonight I plan on loading my old waypoints, routes and popping in the LakeMaster chip…and maybe if I have time I’ll crack open the owners manual. There are some custom settings I use.

Half way planning on getting it into the water next weekend.

I’m WOWed again by Standard/Horizion’s customer support.

I was having trouble connecting the DSC wires from the radio to the Lowrance.

I sent an email to my new friend Tim at Standard/Horizion and the reply with wiring directions were waiting for me when I arrived home. Couple minutes and I was done.

Remember this marine radio is well out of warranty!

Double checked the marine radio screen to ensure the lat/long/knots were on the display. Good to go.

Popped in the card with the X-19’s routes and waypoints tonight…10 seconds and I was noticing one of my favorite cat holes is only 17 air miles from my house.:)

MN LakeMaster chip is in and working.

Screwed around with the Pages to get the rose compass on the left side and the sonar on the right of the screen…lots of options on those configurations.

I spose I’ll have to open the manual to see how to set the soft keys. <sigh>

I notice the night lighting is an orangeish red color…not sure about that…but there is a 10 position dimmer that should make up for it. We’ll have to see.

As long as it’s not raining Saturday morning, there’s a spot by a Pool 4 wing dam with my name on it!

I hope they are both good so they compete and get the price downward. I would love some of this stuff but 2 grand is prohibitive to me with two small children. Then again, I’ve outfished people on occaission using this fine stuff just with a 150 dollar peice of crud.

I’ve got an LCX-27C that would look fine on your boat, but you have to stop making up stories about out fishing people before I will sell it to you.

I wasn’t talking about you eye. That is a nice unit but it would look funny on my duck boat. A 10 dollar shine on a 3 dollar pair of boots. You certainly kicked my butt in numbers this year. I am certain, I have no chance of 3 peating. Especially not after Clark has finally opened his eyes and sees the river as a place for anything but smallies. Now if he can figure out how to do anything besides anchor… and buys his own anchor, he’ll be dangerous. And if Joel shows up all bets are off.
